A colt from the last crop of the late Yarraman Park sire Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) realised $850,000 yesterday, a result that delighted Harry Mitchell, with the Yarraman Park co-owner rating it the best colt they have ever bred by the sire.

Purchased by Wayne Hawkes and catalogued as Lot 210, the colt is out of Crystal Whip (Lonhro), who has had one winner for two foals to race.

Crystal Whip herself is out of Listed winner Crystal Whit (Distorted Humor), making her a half-sister to Group 3 winner Crystal Dreamer (Stratum).

The colt's third dam is winning Snippets (Lunchtime) mare Crystal Snip, who produced Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Crystal Lily (Stratum) and Listed-winning pair Amaethon (Al Maher) and Crystal Web (Hard Spun).

Obviously we lost Hinchinbrook and I think this one is the best one we've ever bred," said Mitchell.

"He looks so very like his father, very correct and a very good mind. He was just that good of a horse that there were just lots of people on him.

"It is a lovely result off a $50,000 service fee so it is a great return for everyone. I think with Hinchinbrook, he's done very well here and has got some nice two-year-olds, but he has done very, very well in Hong Kong obviously his flag bearer there is Beat The Clock".

Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said he felt 'lucky' to be taking the colt home: "He was another really lovely colt that we bought and when you've got a Golden Slipper winner in the family, a fast-running two-year-old family, not that Hinchinbrooks are just two-year-olds. He's a lovely horse and we are lucky to take him home.

"They've been a really top breed and it's unfortunate that the stallion passed away at a reasonably young age. We've been lucky to have a lot of the Hinchinbrooks."

Commenting on the sale Hawkes continued: "The nice ones are very, very strong and where this sale is really good is the middle which is very strong - $200,000 to $500,000 - and it just shows the quality of horses that are here.

"I don't think Barry Bowditch will mind me saying, he asked (on Tuesday), 'how do you think we're going to go?' and I said 'you're going to have a great sale in the $200,000 to $500,000 because there are so many lovely colts and fillies in that bracket' and that is showing on the results board."
