Aquis Farm's managing director Shane McGrath is hoping the I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) colt he paid Rosemont Stud $975,000 for at Magic Millions yesterday will be coming back next year for a crack at the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m).

Catalogued as Lot 371, the colt is the fourth foal out of winning Street Cry (Machiavellian) mare Heavenly Sound, signalling a great return or Rosemont Stud's Anthony Mithen after he paid just 33,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale in 2016 for the mare.

Further afield the mare is from the same family as multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells), Group 2 winner Black Bear Island (Sadler's Wells) and Listed winners Casterton (Fastnet Rock), Fancy Blue (Deep Impact) and Smuggler's Cove (Fastnet Rock), while Moonee Valley Gold Cup (Gr 2, 2500m) winner Hunting Horn (Camelot) also appears on the page.

McGrath said he was pleased to have secured the colt, having rated him as one of the best colts of the sale.

"That was one of the more interesting auctions I have been a part of," said McGrath. "It was nice to get the lucky last bid. He was our top rated colt of the sale by our team led by Dr Demi O'Byrne and we are fortunate to have Todd Pletcher, who trains our American horses, here to look at our horses. He really liked him physically as well.

"I had the boss on the phone and I was trying to get a bid, then a bid got wound back and I wasn't sure whose bid that was. I thought I'd let the game play out and we had one last bid at the end and fortunately nobody wanted to come over the top.

"He looks readymade to come back and take on the race next year. I know one thing, he's definitely not going to Todd Pletcher in America.

"It's a bit of a cliché but he ticked all the boxes. He's got a stallion's pedigree, but he's got to go and do it on the track. We're delighted to have secured him. Well done to the breeders, they have got a big pay day.

"We've got a lot of unraced ones at home. We've had our good two-year-olds trailing today, and we've had horses run in the Breeders' Plate and they have come through. We have got a lot of bullets left to fire and you couldn't leave without him. We were delighted to get him."
