A colt by Redoute's Choice (Danehill) looks set to join Gerald Ryan's stable after owner Mr An beat out Bon Ho for the Bhima Thoroughbreds-consigned yearling at $1.1 million yesterday.

Ryan said that he was not told he was buying the colt until just before it went through the ring and said he was not surprised they had to dig that deep to secure him.

"I was surprised," said Ryan. "Mr An asked me the other day for half a dozen numbers. I gave them to him and I didn't hear from him until when the horse before him was in the ring. Then they rang me and told me to come out the back and see them.

"I'm not surprised we had to pay that much for him, but I didn't think we would be paying that much. He's a good a colt as is in the sale"

By the same cross that produced San Domenico Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) winner and Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) runner-up Pariah (Redoute's Choice - Secluded by Hussonet), this colt, who was catalogued as Lot 354, is from a deep Aga Khan family. The colt's second dam is the well-related Zaldivar (Honour And Glory).

"It's a great family and he's a very athletic horse," continued Ryan. "I'd be very surprised if he wasn't up and going as a two-year-old, where he's here or up and going in the autumn, I don't know, he a as good a moving colt as I've seen here."

Gerald Ryan trains Return With Honour (Fastnet Rock) for Mr An, who the owner purchased for $520,000 at last year's sale, while the owner will be represented by Wisdom Of Water (Headwater) in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

"I didn't know Mr An very well, but he appears like a man who goes and gets what he wants. We've only got one horse for him, Return With Honour, he has had one start for one win."

Meanwhile, Mike Flemming from Bhima Thoroughbreds said it was a pleasing result for his prominent breeder Johnathan Munz.

"Johnathan Munz puts a lot in and breeds a lot of mares so it is great to get this sort of mares. It was great for a very good client."

Bhima also enjoyed a good results with an Exceed And Excel (Danehill) colt when they sold it to John Moore for $900,000 during Wednesday's session and Flemming said he was pleased with the week's results so far.

"The brother to Big Party on Wednesday was great timing which can mean a lot in this game and him winning a Group 3 in Hong Kong certainly helped the activity on him," said Flemming.

"It was a team effort from the whole farm they have been great results. It is hard to know what you expect with horses at this level as soon as you hit the $1 million you need two competing - so you just never know."
