The desire for the first crop of Coolmore's Triple Crown-winning sire American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) was evident at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and that momentum continued at Karaka on Sunday with a colt by the stallion selling to Guy Mulcaster and Chris Waller for NZ$575,000 from the Pencarrow Stud draft.

On the Gold Coast the shuttler finished inside the top five sires by average (with three or more lots sold) with a stunning average of $338,095 and an equally impressive aggregate of $7,100,000 for the 21 lots sold.

Catalogued as Lot 189, the colt is the third living foal out of Group 3-winning Tiger Hill (Danehill) mare Posavina, making him a half-brother to Listed-placed Podravina (Bel Esprit).

Posavina herself is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Rasa Lila (Darci Brahma). The colt's third dam is Grade 1 winner Tis Juliet (Alydar) and she is a sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Stella Madrid.

"Chris [Waller] went and saw him on Saturday morning and he loved him so we were pleased to secure him," Mulcaster said.

"He (American Pharoah) is doing a super job as they are doing it on the grass and on the dirt so to have a horse of his calibre standing down here is a real privilege.

"He is leaving super types and you won't see a horse walk like that very often."

Leon Casey of Pencarrow Stud said he was happy with the way the colt sold and said the decision to sell this yearling was part of a long term plan.

"This colt is part of a decision made in 2003 when Sir Peter [Vela] bought Dance My Dance (Sadler's Wells) to as a maiden mare. She arrived with a brace of Danehills that we offered here at Karaka.

"Pencarrow has bred all the foals from her and have raced 90 per cent of them including Rasa Lila, so this exercise has been a long term one.

"It's an international pedigree and the introduction of American Pharoah continues that.

"Today's lots have all gone to homes that we are very happy with, a really nice range of buyers. Only one passed in so far tells me we are on the right track."
