Westbury Stud's Russell Warwick was celebrating on Sunday after the Pierro (Lonhro) colt they offered at the Karaka 2020 sale was purchased by Garry Carvell of Hiwi Lodge for NZ$900,000 - a new record for the farm.

"I couldn't be more pleased for my clients who are based in Sydney," Warwick said.

"Peter Newsom, Mac Whitehouse and Tony Wales have entrusted me with managing their mares and matings and it is just great that we have had such a result.

"We have worked together now for going on 30 years and they love their racing and breeding although their mare band is down to six these days.

"They are breeders as well as owners. They bred all five stakes winners from Imposingly including Bonneval, purchased by Waikato Stud for a large sum at the end of her racing career.

"They also bred Sedecrem who was trained by Colin Jillings and was an outstanding sprinter-miler.

"It is good for Westbury but even better for our good clients."

Westbury sold 12 of the 15 lots they offered on Sunday for a total of NZ$2,650,000.

This colt is bred on the potent cross of Pierro and Redoute's Choice (Danehill), which has been the source of eight stakes winners in total, including three elite level scorers; Levendi, Acadia Queen and Regal Power.

Catalogued as Lot 155, the colt is out of Our Squeezer (Redoute's Choice), who is herself a half-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Bonneval (Makfi), Group 2 winner Lord Arthur (Camelot) and Group 3-winning trio Imposing Lass (Makfi), Full Of Spirit (Flying Spur) and Lady Cumquat (Duke Of Marmalade).

Carvell said he was delighted to be leaving the sale with the colt, commenting that a yearlings out of last season's champion broodmare sire Redoute's Choice are rare commodities.

"We'll take our time with him and get him broken in and go from there," said Carvell.

"He's by a sire who's booming and the cross with Redoute's Choice mares produces plenty of winners and stakes winners.

"He's a lovely horse and they aren't easy to find. When you go through the sales in Australia there were only two or three colts out of Redoute's Choice mares.

"I thought he go to NZ$800,000 or more.

"He'll be telling us how good he is and where he goes."
