Savabeel filly catches Mulcaster’s eye.
Having purchased Group 1 winner Kolding (Ocean Park) in 2017 and fellow elite scorer Kermadec (Teofilo) in 2013 from Wentwood Grange, Guy Mulcaster was happy to put his faith in the nursery again, paying them NZ$500,000 for a daughter of leading sire Savabeel (Zabeel).
Catalogued as, Lot 379 the filly is out of Group 1-winning Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer) mare Valley Girl, who is out of Group 3 winner Leigh Valley (Bianconi).
The filly was purchased in conjunction with trainer Chris Waller and be raced by the Kaha Syndicate.
"I loved that filly as she is from Wentwood Grange out of a Group 1 winner," said Mulcaster. "We've been lucky enough to get Kolding and Kermadec from Wentwood Grange and we know their horses are always well prepared and they do a great job for us.
"The filly will be raced in the Kaha Syndicate. We've been buying horses here for them for the last three or four years.
"We've got a couple of promising horses in Relucent and Nyami in Sydney. Relucent ran in the VRC Derby and looks to have come back well while Nyami is a Charm Spirit who is heading in the right direction.
"They have all put some money in for the last three or four years and we are really happy with their support.
Meanwhile, Gary Harding also paid NZ$500,000 for a son of Darley's stalwart stallion Exceed And Excel (Danehill) at Karaka yesterday.
Harding, who had Group 1 success with mare Bounding (Lonhro) who is out of an Exceed And Excel mare, said the colt would start his career in New Zealand with Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard, but could end up in Australia should he be good enough.
"I am a bit biased because I had Bounding and I have got a very good two-year-old by Exceed and Excel too. I suppose I am a bit of a fan," Harding said.
"He scoped out well and vetted up well and I am very pleased to have him.
"I am very pleased with the price, we thought we were going to have to pay a lot more for him.
"He is going to stay in New Zealand initially and then if he comes up he will head to Australia."
The colt who is from the family of stakes winners La Sizeranne (Stravinsky) and Za Moulin Rouge (Street Cry), while further afield he is from the family of Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Tavago (Tavistock).
