The opening day of the Tattersalls February Mixed Sale in Newmarket on Thursday saw large gains across the board. Compared to the corresponding session last year when 130 lots sold for 925,700gns, 138 lots were sold for 1,754,300gns this year, an increase of 90 per cent.

The median rose 82 per cent from 2,750gns a year ago to 5,000gns whilst the average increased 79 per cent from 7,121gns in 2019 to 12,712gns this year. The clearance rate also rose, up 11 per cent to 83 per cent.

The session was topped by Listed winning four-year-old filly I'll Have Another (Dragon Pulse) who was bought for 200,000gns by bloodstock agent Cormac McCormack from the draft of The National Stud. By Dragon Pulse (Kyllachy), I'll Have Another has won four times and also placed at Group 3 level in Germany. She is out of the winner Jessie Jane (Dylan Thomas), a half-sister to the dam of dual Group 1 winner La Collina (Strategic Prince).

"She has a pedigree, she is a lovely, scopey mare, a queen. She is to visit Ten Sovereigns," said McCormack.

One further lot sold for six figures with four-year-old gelding Power Link (Data Link) bought by Paul Murphy of C & C Transport on behalf of a Saudi Arabian client. Power Link has won four of his 15 starts to date.

One lot destined for Australia is Dubawi (Dubai Destination) mare Memphis who was bought by bloodstock agent Matt Houldsworth on behalf of An Australian-based client from Godolphin's draft.

"She is going to a good farm in Australia and will not race on. She is by Dubawi and a half to a Group 1 winner who is breeding now there is a lot to like," said Houldsworth.

"There can't be many mares by Dubawi in Australia."

Unraced, Memphis is out of the Listed winner Suez (Green Desert) who has produced five winners headed by Group 1 winning filly Lyric Of Light (Street Cry). Her second dam is Repeat Warning (Warning), dam of the Listed winner Polish Princess (Polish Precedent) who produced A D Hollindale Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) winner Leebaz (Zabeel) as well as Group scorers Polish Knight (Encosta De Lago) and Euro Angel (Rip Van Winkle). Memphis' third dam is Reprocolour (Jimmy Reppin), dam of Irish Champion Stakes (Gr 1) winner Cezanne (Ajdal) and grandam of multiple Group 1 winner Opera House (Sadler's Wells).

The second and final day of the sale will be held at Park Paddocks on Friday.
