The Tattersalls February Sale concluded in Newmarket on Friday with four-year-old gelding Creationist (Noble Mission) topping the session after being purchased for 60,000gns by Rupert Pritchard-Gordon's RPG Bloodstock. Trained by Roger Charlton, Creationist came to the sale having won twice from 12 starts.

"He has been bought to go to Ireland and to Ken Condon's and though he will run as a dual-purpose horse he has been mainly bought to be a work companion for Romanised," said Rupert Pritchard-Gordon, racing manager for Robert Ng who owns Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) and Prix Jacques Le Marois (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Romanised (Holy Roman Emperor).

"Creationist is a well-rated horse and looks as though he will do that job well," added Pritchard-Gordon, saying: "I am sure Ken will find a few options on the track for him, too."

One further lot made over 50,000gns, St Just (Golden Horn), who was bought by Quantum - a syndicate run by Jonathan Ramsden - for 55,000gns from William Haggas' Somerville Lodge Stables.

At the conclusion of trade on Friday, figures had risen across the board. At the 2020 renewal 264 of the 305 lots offered were sold compared to the 2019 sale when 294 of the 346 lots offered were sold. The aggregate was 3,260,300gns, up four per cent from 3,139,100gns a year ago. The average rose 16 per cent from 10,677gns to 12,350gns whilst the median was up 30 per cent from 5,000gns in 2019 to 6,500gns.

"The first Tattersalls February Sale took place in the year 2000 and the sale is now a well established fixture in the European bloodstock sales calendar, regularly attracting an extraordinarily diverse international cast of buyers, similar to so many sales at Tattersalls," said Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony.

"The February Sale's ability to draw buyers from all corners of the world has been particularly evident over the past two days with buyers from around 30 different countries all contributing to robust trade from start to finish and a set of figures which compare favourably with last year's February Sale."
