Churchill colt makes €82,000

Tops opening day of Goffs February Sale on Tuesday .

A colt from the first crop of Coolmore Australia shuttler Churchill (Galileo) topped the opening day of the Goffs February Sale on Tuesday when bought by Flash Conroy's Glenvale Stud for €82,000 /A$134,283. 

Catalogued as Lot 183 from the draft of Riverview Farm, the colt is the first foal out of Najma (Cape Cross) who is herself out of Group 2 winner Silkwood (Singspiel).

Very early during the day Lot 4, another son of Churchill, was sold by Baroda Stud to Howson and Houldsworth Bloodstock for €40,000 /A$65,500. The colt is out of Zibeling (Cape Cross) who is a half-sister to Beauty Is Truth (Pivotal), dam of Group 1 winners The United States (Galileo), Hydrangea (Galileo) and Hermosa (Galileo).

A total of five lots sold for over €50,000 /A$81,880 with the second highest price coming for a daughter of Profitable (Invincible Spirit) who was bought by Margaret O'Toole for €75,000 /A$122,820. Offered by Nanallac Stud as Lot 64, the filly is a half-sister to Listed winner Cape Factor (Oratorio) and stakes-placed Court House (Dawn Approach) being out of Crossanza (Cape Cross) who has also produced two further winners. 

On Wednesday 154 of the 237 lots offered were sold compared to 2019 when 134 of the 216 lots offered were sold. The aggregate fell two per cent this year, down from €2,026,700 /A$3,318,923 to €1,979,900 /A$3,242,284 while the average was down 15 per cent from €15,125 /A$24,768 to €12,856 /A$21,052. The median however increased 14 per cent from €7,000 /A$11,463 to €8,000 /A$13,100. this year. 

The second and final day of the sale will be held at Kildare Paddocks on Wednesday.
