After spending $1.35 million on two colts by Newgate Farm's first-crop sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) at last month's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, James Harron added another colt by the stallion to his portfolio at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on Monday, going to $340,000 for the youngster from the Newgate Farm draft.

It was no surprise to see Harron stock-piling colts by the sire given that Capitalist handed the agent his greatest day on a racecourse when he landed the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) in 2016, having taken out the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) en route to his win in the stallion-making Group 1.

Bought for his colts syndicate, Harron said he was impressed with the way the colt handled the inspections and the pressure of sale, commenting that his temperament reminded him of Capitalist.

"He is a lovely colt out of a good racemare, who was very precocious herself," said Harron. "I just loved the attitude of his horse. He handled the sale beautifully and he has a lot of quality about him, lovely middle and I was watching him in the back ring and he just handled everything so well like his dad used to, so I was very pleased to get him.

"He's been purchased for the colts syndicate so I am looking forward to breaking him and getting him out there.

"I thought he had been around that $300,000 mark, but on the nice ones you sort of have to be prepared to go that little bit more."

Catalogued as Lot 369, the colt is out of two time-winning Listed-placed Gio Ponti (Tale Of The Cat) mare Pearl Congenial.

The colt's third dam is Group 2 winner Toast Of The Coast (Rory's Jester), who is herself the grandam of Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Super Seth (Dundeel) and Listed winner Wild Planet (Animal Kingdom).

Newgate Farm's Capitalist has had 20 yearlings sold so far this week for a total of $2,084,000, at an average of $104,200. He stood his first season at stud for a fee of $55,000 (inc GST).

Having purchased a colt by Capitalist's barnmate Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) during the opening session on Sunday, Harron said he was happy to put his faith in this year's crop of first season sires.

"We bought a colt by Extreme Choice yesterday [Sunday] again he was out of a really good racemare from America and he was her first foal," said Harron. "I am a big fan of Extreme Choice, he obviously doesn't have a huge crop on the ground, but I was looking for one and I was happy to find one."

Of the market the agent commented: "The market has been very strong and the good horses have been selling really well. I felt very sorry for Inglis yesterday [Sunday] because the conditions were against them, but they did a brilliant job of keeping it all together and I think we've seen a very healthy market continue."
