Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott beat off competition early on in the day to secure a colt by late Widden Stud sire Sebring (More Than Ready) for $240,000 at Sunday's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

The name Waterhouse is synonymous with the stallion having saddled the horse to victory in five races, including the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and Sires Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), while the stable are responsible for sending out 67 winners by the ill-fated son of More Than Ready (Southern Halo).

Bott said the stable would be looking to target the Inglis Millennium (RL, 1100m) with the Yarraman Park consigned colt, who was catalogued as Lot 39.

"He is a nice imposing individual and I would think he would get up nice and early for us," said Bott. "He was just the sort of type we tried to target out of the sale and he was sold by a vendor who has great results producing horses.

"He is by a stallion we love and we've had a lot of success with the progeny. We want to get a horse who can get us back for the Millennium next year and he looks like an ideal candidate.

"I think it's the type of sale where those types of horses standout and I think you have to be prepared to pay that sort of price, particularly given that he is by a proven stallion."

The colt is out of Canny Time (Canny Lad), who is herself a half-sister to Danehill Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Charlie Boy (Myboycharlie) and Listed-placed gelding Cousteau (Exceed And Excel).

The colt's third dam is Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Pontal Lass (Marauding), who produced Group 2 winner Quays (Royal Academy) - the dam of Listed winner Quayside (Street Cry).
