After trying to secure a colt by Deep Field (Northern Meteor) all week at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, the new partnership of Regal Farm Partnership, Upper Bloodstock, Tang Long and McKeever Bloodstock was finally able to secure a yearling by the Newgate Farm sire on Tuesday paying $230,000 for the colt from the Canning Downs Stud draft.

Catalogued as Lot 563, the yearling is the second foal out of two-time-winning Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Wind Shift.

The colt's third dam is Group 3 winner Blue Storm (Bluebird), who produced fellow Group 3 scorer Steflara (Zabeel) - the grandam of Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Flit (Medgalia d'Oro). Blue Storm also produced Virago (Danehill) - the dam of Listed winner Federal (Medaglia d'Oro).

Shane Crawford of Regal Farm said the colt was likely to be offered at the Inglis Ready 2 Run sale in October.

"We've gone into partnership Regal Farm Partnership, Upper Bloodstock, Tang Long and McKeever Bloodstock," said Crawford. "He will go back to us and we will break him in and then he could possibly back here for the Ready 2 Race Sale. Karaka is a possibility but I would imagine it is more of a possibility that he would come back here.

"Deep Field is definitely a sire on the move and were on a few by the sire earlier in the week and we are just happy to get one, but it hasn't been easy. We've had a go at a few.

"He has a good scope, clean x-rays, so he ticked all those boxes. He looks like a real runner and a really nice breeze-up horse. We were confident, but we were hopeful. We really liked the horse, so we went hard and went slightly over budget.

"The partnership came together pretty much when we got here. We're all mates and do a bit of work for each other so we look forward to it."

Newgate Farm stallion Deep Field enjoyed a lucrative sale selling 20 yearlings for an aggregate of $2,832,000 with an average of $141,600. He stood his first four seasons at stud for $22,000 (inc GST) and then his fee was doubled to $44,000 in 2019 when he covered 256 mares.
