Matt Smith snaps up I Am Invincible filly for $210,000.
Trainer Matt Smith thought he would have to stretch beyond $250,000 to secure a filly by gun sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on Monday and he was understandably delighted when the gavel fell in his favour for $210,000, well below what he valued the filly at.
Catalogued as Lot 311 and offered by Kitchwin Hills, the filly is the third foal out of winning God's Own (Redoute's Choice) mare Miss Beauty World, who is herself a half-sister to Group 3-winning pair Lite'n In My Veins (Henrythenavigator), Hi World (High Chaparral) and Listed-winning duo Loveyamadly (Bel Esprit) and Ducimus (Snitzel).
Further afield this the family as Listed winners Firenza (Kenny's Best Pal) and Assertive Approach (Akeed Mofeed) and Group 3 winners Tuscan Sling (Danehill Dancer) and Kiwia (Reset).
Smith, who was buying in partnership with John Foote, said he rated the yearling as one of the best fillies on the complex and said he after the I Am Invincible filly out of Limbo Down (Fastnet Rock) made $350,000 late on Sunday evening he expected he would have to pay more for this yearling.
"We thought she was one of the best fillies on the complex," said Smith. "We have been very lucky to buy many of the fillies we have liked at this sale. I Am Invincible filly's are probably averaging more than what we paid for her I'm sure, but she was just a cracking filly.
"I thought I was going to have to go $300,000 for her I really thought she'd be making that money every day of the week. The filly that sold on Sunday made $350,000 and I thought this was even better filly, I know everyone has their own opinion, but I didn't see much between them so I think she was good value in the end.
"This is our home turf and we didn't buy at Magics, we tried too but just couldn't quite get what we wanted because it was a very strong market up there, but it means we could be strong at this sale," continued Smith. "We have a few clients in mind for the filly and they already race an I Am Invincible filly and were keen to get another so they might be keen."
