Clinton McDonald has been active at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale buying six yearlings during Books 1 and 2 for a total outlay of $1,045,000 and on Tuesday he revealed he was stocking up for his new training partnership, which is set to be announced imminently.

"It's been a really good week for us," said McDonald. "We're looking at going into a training partnership later in the year so we're trying to stock up and hopefully hit the ground running."

The most expensive yearling the trainer paid for on day three of the Melbourne sale was for a filly by Street Boss (Street Cry) for $180,000 from the Rosemont Stud draft.

Catalogued as Lot 627, the filly is out of four time-winning Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Irish Teardrop, who is herself out of Group 3 winner Is Amazing (Laranto).

Further back this is the family of Group 1 winner Ancient Song (Canny Lad), Listed winners Royal Lott (Royal Abjar) and Danzig Beau (Saint).

"She's a gorgeous filly. We loved her from the day we saw her," McDonald said. "She's very Fastnet Rock-ish so she was a filly that we really liked and we've got her sold to a couple of guys which is good. She's a filly we wanted to take home."

McDonald said he had not expected to pay that much for the filly, but had to go higher than he wanted to beat off fierce competition from fellow Caulfield-based trainer Ciaron Maher.

"Ciaron Maher, I don't like Ciaron Maher, I'll have to belt him tomorrow," McDonald quipped. "Let's hope he's a good judge, he buys enough of them.

"She stood out, she's a lovely racey filly. Street Boss' mares have only gotten better and he's a stallion that's going somewhere."

The filly was bred by GB Thoroughbreds' Daniel Gangi and Simon Bilalis and Gangi was overwhelmed with the result and said he had not expected her to make that sort of money.

"We didn't really expect that, but she has been a very nice filly from day dot," he said.

"She moves well and she would run tomorrow if there was a two-year-old race tomorrow. I didn't expect that but I'll take it. It's unreal."

Gangi was buoyed to see two good judges in McDonald and Maher bidding on the filly.

"Clinton has been going really well lately and he deserves the results he's been getting. We got what we got today and the rest is history.

"The mare has a foal by Rubick and is in foal to Pride Of Dubai. We have been with Anthony [Mithen] and the team since day one and they have been unreal to us. We went in blind, we've never been in racing or breeding and Mitho and his team are unreal. They always do the right thing by us and every now and then we get a result like this and it's just unreal.

"We've got nine mares between a few of us. We love it, although it is the hardest thing I have ever done in life. We work hard at it so it's a great result."

Meanwhile Rosemont's Anthony Mithen said: "There were plenty of people waiting around to buy her, that's for sure, and she was worth the wait.

"She was for great clients of course who have been great supporters for four or five years now and this is great for them, one of their best results. They were in tears afterwards they were rapped which is fantastic.''
