Upper Bloodstock added to their burgeoning portfolio when they purchased a colt by Newgate Farm's first-crop sire Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) for $175,000 on the third and final day at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Catalogued as Lot 554 and offered by Woodside Park Stud, the colt is the first foal out of Sebring (More Than Ready) mare Call Me Sachi, who is herself out of Listed winner Le Chasseuse (Lion Hunter).

The colt's fourth dam is Vionnet (Prego) - the dam of Listed-winning Cheverny (Grand Lodge), Fashion News (Snippets), Academe (Royal Academy) and Vionneto (Danzero).

Ross Lao of Upper Bloodstock said he rated the yearling the best colt in Book 2 and he would be bound for Hong Kong should he prove to be good enough.

"He is a very nice horse. I thought he was the best colt in Book 2. I bought it for a client and he will go to Hong Kong if it is good enough.

"We will break him in here first and then see how good he is and go for there. His walk and strength and he was a good type. I always liked the Winning Ruperts, they look fast and athletic. We buy about 30 horses a year and we keep some ourselves and then some are for our clients."

Meanwhile, James Price, general manager commercial at Woodside Park Stud said the colt was the ultimate professional throughout the inspection and was happy to see him sell so well.

"He's a wonderful physical, he paraded like an absolute superstar and paraded at the end of the week exactly how he did at the start of the week," said Price. "He's got a wonderful walk, he never turned a hair, never got upset, grumpy, it's hard not to like him."

Woodside Park Stud sold all 22 yearlings over the three days for an aggregate of $1,604,000 and Price at the Victorian operation said he was pleased with the results. They finished Book 2 as the leading vendor by aggregate, selling ten lots for $589,000.

"We've sold everything, it's been a great week for Woodside and a great week for the Victorian industry overall really," said Price. "It's a quality sale all round."
