Empress Ali (Holy Roman Emperor) topped the Cornerstone Stud Unreserved Reduction Sale on Tuesday after A List Stud paid $220,000 for the mare on the recently launched Magic Millions Online sales platform.

The sale finished with an aggregate of $1,068,700, with 63 lots selling at a clearance of 95.45 per cent and Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch was happy with the first sale.

"We must thank Sam Hayes and all of the Cornerstone Stud team for providing the perfect launch sale for Magic Millions Online," said Bowditch.

"Since the sale was launched we've received so much great feedback on the site and all of the digital assets and information supplied - from photos to videos and agent assessments - it was truly first class.

"It was great to see so many different bidders participating and we are sure they will be delighted with their purchases,"

Meanwhile, Cornerstone’s managing director Sam Hayes was equally buoyed by the results.

"The unreserved format is truly nerve racking as a vendor, but overall we are delighted with the results," Hayes said. "There was some spirited bidding and some great buying.

"The sale generated a great amount of interest and there was bidding from every corner of the country. It was a whirlwind of activity and the site all worked seamlessly."

"It was a privilege to have partnered with Magic Millions on the launch of their online platform.

Catalogued as Lot 32, Empress Ali - who was offered in-foal to former Darley shuttler Night Of Thunder (Dubawi) - is a half-sister to Shared Ambition (Born To Sea) - who showed her class when beating Group 1 winner and stablemate Youngstar (High Chaparral) in the Randwick City Stakes (Listed, 2000m) last month.

A List Stud’s Chris Lee said he was pleased to have secured the mare and the fact she was sold in foal to Night Of Thunder, who has been represented by six winners, including two stakes winners in Australia, made her an even more valuable prospect.

"I love the page of the mare," Lee said. "This mare will enrich my broodmare band as a lot of those I have are sprinting bred types."

"She is a half to a good horse who is trained by Chris Waller and he believes the horse will achieve good things in the future for connections and the family.

"I am looking forward to the special foal the mare produces and we may see that foal at the sales in the future.

The top priced weanling of the sale was a colt from the second crop of Newgate Farm stallion Capitalist (Written Tycoon) out of stakes winner Oridane (King Of Danes), who was purchased by Victorian trainer Shane Nichols for $105,000. The colt was offered as Lot 14
