Kodiac’s (Danehill) progeny have been successfully advertising their sire’s ability to consistently produce top-class racehorses in the last few weeks - headlined when he sired a stakes treble on the fifth and final day of Royal Ascot - and that carried through into the sales ring when seven of his progeny sold for an aggregate of 1,000,000gns.

The Tally-Ho-based stallion’s stakes winners at the Royal meeting were headlined by the Cambridge co-owned Hello Youzmain, who landed the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1, 6f), while Campanelle (2 f ex Janina by Namid) and Nando Parrado (2 c ex Chibola by Roy) who landed the Queen Mary Stakes (Gr 2, 5f) and Coventry Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) respectively.

The most expensive of the quartet was Lot 71, a colt out of unraced Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) mare Life Of Pi, who was purchased by Anthony Stroud for 300,000gns.

The Church Farm & Horse Park Stud-consigned is herself a half-sister to Listed winner Temps Au Temps (Invincible Spirit) and Group 3-placed mare After (Danehill Dancer) - the dam of Group 2 scorer and Group 1-placed Armory (Galileo).

Further back this is the family of Grade 1 winner Wandesta (Nashwan), Group 2 winner De Quest (Rainbow Quest) and Listed-winning duo Source Of Light (Rainbow Quest) and Turners Hill (Top Ville).

"He is for H H SH Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa – we bought Al Raya at the breeze up sales last year and he was a Group race winner,” said Stroud.

"This horse ticked all the boxes and vetted well."

The most expensive lot by the son of was another colt, who was purchased by Chris Dwyer for 270,000gns. The colt was catalogued as Lot 53 and offered by Grove Stud.

Overall during the sale 70 of the 84 lots offered were sold for an aggregate of 6,649,500gns, average of 94,993gns and median of 61,000gns. At the 2019 sale 85 of the 109 lots offered were sold for 10,343,000gns at an average of 121,682gns and median of 85,000gns.

Blandford Bloodstock finished the sale as the leading buyer having spent 908,000gns on four lots whilst Tally Ho Stud were leading consignor having sold eight lots for 740,000gns.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony was pleased with the results achieved this year considering the current economic circumstances.

“First and foremost we would like to pay tribute to each and every individual who has worked so hard to make sure that the 2020 Craven Breeze Up Sale took place under almost normal conditions, albeit more than two months later than intended,” he said.

“In particular we should recognise the patience and commitment of the Breeze Up consignors who have worked with us every step of the way and have adapted to the challenges that the global pandemic has thrown at people in every walk of life.

“None of us can pretend that the past few months have been easy, but in these times of adversity it has been even more pleasing than usual to see so many of the consignors well rewarded. A clearance rate of 82 per cent, an average price nudging 100,000 guineas and a top priced colt matching last year’s highest priced colt, are very respectable statistics and reflect the outstanding professionalism of the Breeze Up consignors who, as ever, brought a fine collection of two year olds to the Craven Breeze Up Sale.”
