A colt by Rosemont Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) handed Knockglass Stud a fine return on the 16,000gns which Kilronan paid for him at Book 3 of last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2019 when he was purchased by Sean Quinn for 77,000gns at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale on Wednesday.

Quinn will be hoping lightning can strike twice with progeny by the stallion, having bought another son of Starspangledbanner - subsequent Group 1 winner The Wow Signal - for £50,000 from the Tattersalls Ascot Breeze Up Sale in 2014.

"This horse did a very pleasing breeze and what I liked is he got stronger as the breeze went on," said Quinn. "I didn't have any intention of buying a breeze up horse, but when I saw him he caught my eye and I discussed it with Dad [John] and said he might be a good addition to the team.

"I watched the breeze at home just because it is a long week if you are down here all the time and we are quite busy at home, but John [Kilbride] was here and he watched it live and gave me a bit of help.

"He is for an existing man in the yard so he is happy! Starspangledbanner is a very good stallion and this is a nice horse. This is a very late April foal so we will get him home, but there is no rush with the horse, we will let him tell us."

Catalogued as Lot 6, the colt is out of Oasis Dream (Green Desert)-winning mare Adore, who is already the dam of one winner.

Adore is a daughter of Listed winner Fantasize (Groom Dancer), who is herself Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Dazzle (Gone West) and Listed-winning duo Baschar (Starcraft) and Hypnotize (Machiavellian).

Hypnotize herself produced Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Hooray (Invincible Spirit) and Listed Hypnotic (Lomitas).

Further back this is the same family Flying Five Stakes (Gr 2, 5f) winner Danehurst (Danehill) and Group 3 winner Humouresque (Black Tide).

Starspangledbanner will stand at Rosemont Stud in Victoria for a fee of $19,800 (inc GST) in 2020.
