Grade 3-placed juvenile tops modified July Horses of Racing Age Sale.

Live auction action returned to Kentucky on July 13 with a robust renewal of the July Horses of Racing Age sale at Newtown Paddocks in Lexington. Conducted as an open sale for the first time, the sale was modified to serve an industry that has been balancing limited racing and sales opportunities since March. All horses offered were on the sales grounds, and buyers had the option to bid in-person, on the phone, or via the new online auction tool.

The top-lot of the day was Grade 3-placed County Final (Oxbow) when he sold to West Point Thoroughbreds US$475,000. 

Catalogued as Lot 166 and offered by by John Ennis Training, the colt was a fourth length winner of his maiden on debut at the Churchill Downs on June 5 and he followed up that effort with a second-place finish in the Bashford Manor Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) on June 27. 

The colt is out of multiple stakes winning Tapit (Pulpit) mare Tapajo, making him a half-brother to two winners and is from the family of Grade 1 winner Currency Swap (High Cotton) and Grade 3 scorer Black Jack Road (Kennedy Road). 

Earlier on in the session, Per Capita - a winning four-year-old colt by Tapit - sold for US$325,000 to Red Oak Stable, agent for Rick Sacco. 

Offered as Lot 85 by Gainesway, Per Capita was a winner last out, breaking his maiden at the fourth time of asking over a mile on the dirt at Churchill Downs on May 24. 

The colt was raced by Peter M. Brant and Gainesway Stable and trained by Chad Brown and he is out of the Graded stakes-winning Orientate (Mt. Livermore) mare Successful Outlook, making him a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Sweet Lulu (Mr Geeley), while he is a brother to Grade 2 winner Anchor Down and Grade 3 scorer Iron Fist.

The session's top filly was recent Indiana Oaks (Gr 3, 8.5f) runner up Impeccable Style (Uncle Mo), who was purchased for US$275,000 by Bradley Thoroughbreds. 

The three-year-old winning daughter of Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) was offered as Lot 53 by Gainesway. 

The filly broke her maiden on her second try last year as a juvenile at Churchill Downs and was has won or placed in four of six career starts to date for Gainesway Stable, Catalyst Stable, Paul McInnis, Patty Slevin, and Magdalena Racing and trainer Kenny McPeek, which has seen her accrue earnings of US$134,912.

She is out of the unraced Candy Ride (Ride The Rails) mare Deb's Candy Girl, who is herself the daughter of Listed scoring mare Bisbee's Prospect (Smart Strike). 

Further back this is the family of Listed winners Taste The Passion (Wild Again), Stopshoppingdebbie (Curlin), Shampo (Gulch) and Smarty Deb (Smart Strike). 

At the close of trade, Fasig-Tipton reported that 81 horses made an aggregate of US$5,072,000 at an average of US$62,617, while the median was reported as US$30,000.
