Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale held in Newmarket due to coronavirus pandemic

A filly by Kitten’s Joy (El Prado) was the headline act of the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale - which was held in Newmarket due to the coronavirus pandemic - after jockey Jamie Spencer, who bidding on behalf of trainer David Simcock, went to £220,000 for the filly, beating out underbidder Alex Elliot in the process.  

The price signalled a great pinhooking result for Grove Stud, who outlayed just US$27,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale and Grove Stud’s Brendan Holland expressed his delight after the sale.

"I bought her off my pals at Hunter Valley, I saw her when I went over last year, thankfully they sold her to me,” said Holland. “She has done really well, she is a lovely, lovely filly, she has loads of quality. She is very natural. I’m delighted, it is a great result.

"It is a great end to the season. Personally we have done fine, and most consignors are relieved it is all over and everyone is still in the game, I'd say. I look forward to relaxing and watching Goodwood next week, but we have got yearlings in and starting to prep them."

Catalogued as Lot 74, the filly is out of four-time winner Desertstormelite (Chester House), making her a half-sister to two-time winner Unfuhrling (Langfuhr). 

The filly’s second dam is six-time winner Jodie Faster (Theatrical), the dam of Listed winner Enduring Well (Arch). Jodie Faster is also the grandam of Listed winners Sisterhood (Kitten’s Joy) and Cozy Kitten (Kitten’s Joy). 

Further back this is the same family as Grade 1-winning duo Vivano (Island Whirl) and Burning Roma (Rubiano). 

Kitten’s Joy is the sire of 97 stakes winners, headed by 14 elite level winners, including this season's 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winner Kameko the stallion stood at Hill 'N Dale Farms for a fee of US$75,000 in 2020.
