At the close of trade on the second day, 264 lots sold for $39,374,000 over the two days, the sale average is $149,144 compared to last year's $146,914, while five lots have sold for over $1 million.

The current clearance rate of 72 per cent is down on the79 per cent of 12 months ago, while the median has dropped 14 per cent from $70,000 to $60,000 and Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said he was happy with the day's results, despite the current global economic climate.

"It is hard to have clear expectations in the current times, but I thought vendors on the whole did their best to meet the market," said Bowditch. "There are a lot of opportunities for buyers. A lot of these horses have got good covers and they are young mares and I expect anyone keeping their lists long at this sale would be a fruitful outcome for them in years to come.

"There is obviously a little bit more uncertainty at the moment, whether everyone has seen the mares, because there is a good percentage of them that are back at home. But all in all when you look at the figures and what the good mares made today I would have thought the vendors of them would be pleased with the outcomes.

"The average is healthy and there are plenty of buyers here that have got money to spend here on the right product and a lot of it is still in their pockets, which bodes well for tomorrow and for the guys that are bidding online doing their research and getting amongst it. I think there is value and lots of opportunities."

Bowditch said he was looking forward to Wednesday, where the headline act is likely to be dual Group 1-winning I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) mare Viddora, who will be offered by Newgate in foal to Ballylinch Stud resident Lope De Vega (Shamardal).

"Hopefully tomorrow we can continue to find some of our breeders some products at the right price," said Bowditch.

"There is a great day tomorrow with some important mares to go through, including Viddora. She was a superstar on the racetrack and she is a good-looking mare and she has a great cover to Lope De Vega. She is the headline act, but I think it will be another solid day's trade."
