After Zoustar's (Northern Meteor) daughter Sunlight set the ring alight when selling for a record-breaking $4.2 million on Monday, it was the turn of the weanlings at the Magic Millions National Sale on Thursday and a son of the Widden Stud-based stallion took centre stage as Segenhoe Stud went to $410,000 to secure the colt from the Rothwell Park draft.

Catalogued as Lot 879, the colt is out of six-time winning Husson (Hussonet) mare Miss Husson, who finished second in the Sunshine Coast Guineas (Gr 3, 1600m) in 2014.

Miss Husson herself was purchased by Lacoste Bloodstock for $220,000 at the 2018 edition of the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in foal to Sebring (More Than Ready) and that foal was purchased by Yulong for $215,000 during the weanling session of the the following year.

The mare was offered again this year - in foal to Arrowfield Stud stallion The Autumn Sun (Redoute's Choice) - and she was also snapped up by Yulong for $360,000.

The colt's third dam is dual winner Terrestrial (Star Watch) - the dam of TJ Smith Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Outback Prince (Desert Prince) and dual elite level winner Hotel Grand (Grand Lodge), while she is also the grandam of Listed winner Turbo Street (Encosta De Lago) and the dam of dual Group 2 winner Scott Base (Dalghar).

Segenhoe Stud's general manager Peter O'Brien said he rated the colt the best weanling on the complex and said he would more than likely be prepared for the Magic Million Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.

"For me he was far and away the best weanling of the sale," O'Brien told Racing and Sports Bloodstock. "I had seen him on the farm a few months ago and I loved him then and he has just gone on and on.

"I thought I would have to give around $350,000 for him, so we made it a little bit more, but you often have to for the good ones. I love the stallion and this weanling is a beautiful balanced horse with terrific quality, but his forte was his action - like all Zoustars. At the end of day, particularly with weanlings, you've got to buy the ones you want.

"He is a very mature horse and I would say more than likely he will come back here in January. But we will get him home, get him relaxed, throw him out in the field and figure it out. But I would say he will be back in January."

Selling horses this year has been thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic and O'Brien was quick to heap praise on the auction house's handling of the tough situation.

"I thought the sale was a typical weanling sale - the nice horses made their money and there were people there to buy them," said O'Brien.

"We had a list of five weanlings and five went through the ring that we got beaten on four of them - so there was plenty of competition.

"But all credit to Barry Bowditch and the team at Magic Millions it must have been a nightmare for them just to get this sale to happen and they have done an extraordinary job to get the people here."

Rothwell Park enjoyed a good day in the ring, selling nine weanlings for an aggregate of $984,500 at an average of $109,389, which saw them finish the day as leading vendor in both fields (average with three or more lots sold).
