The catalogue for Book 1 of the 2020 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, which begins its two-day run on October 6, has been released.

The flagship Tattersalls yearling sale has attracted an outstanding collection of yearlings, including 20 by Dubawi (Dubai Millennium), 19 by Galileo (Sadler’s Wells), 32 by Frankel (Galileo), 21 by Kingman (Invincible Spirit) and 33 by Sea The Stars (Cape Cross).

The strength of the sale in Australia has been headlined by 2018 graduate Russian Camelot - who was purchased by Jeremy Brummitt for 120,000gns and went on to win the South Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) last season.

In addition, the catalogue features own or half-brothers and sisters to a massive 53 Classic and Group 1 winners and an equally impressive 256 Group/Listed winners. Amongst the siblings to Classic and Group 1 winners are own or half-brothers to global stars including a Dark Angel (Acclamation) half-brother to Beauty Parlour (Deep Impact) (Lot 52), a Siyouni (Pivotal) half-sister to 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winner Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit), who is about to cover his first book of mares at Coolmore’s Australia base (Lot 74), a colt by Swettenham Stud shuttler Highland Reel (Galileo) who is a half-brother to unbeaten dual Group 1 winner Palace Pier (Kingman). Meanwhile, there is a colt by Galileo out of Ghurra (War Chant), making him a half-brother to Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) (Lot 178).

Among the 19 yearlings by Coolmore Stud’s superstar Galileo is a filly by Keith F Nolan Classic (Gr 3, 1600m) winner Dawn Wall (Fastnet Rock) (Lot 117 https://secure.tattersalls.com:8443/4DCGI/Entry/Lot/OC120/117) meaning the filly is bred on the same cross as seven Group 1 winners and 18 stakes winners.

Meanwhile, while Australian Listed winner Crafty (Manhattan Rain) has a filly by Sea The Stars catalogued for the sale (Lot 103) and Blue Diamond Prelude (f) (Gr 3, 1100m) winner One Last Dance’s (Encosta De Lago) colt by Frankel (Galileo) will go through the ring catalogued as Lot 340.

The classy catalogue also features yearlings by Coolmore’s America Triple Crown-winning Coolmore shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile), Churchill (Galileo), who also shuttles to Coolmore, while yearlings by Swettenham Stud shuttler Highland Reel, Haunui Farm shuttler Ribchester (Iffraaj) and Almanzor (Wootton Bassett), who shuttles at Cambridge Stud in New Zealand, are also represented.

The largest consignment comes from The Castlebridge Consignment with 32 yearlings, followed by Newsells Park Stud with an outstanding team of 25, Watership Down Stud with 20 and Highclere Stud with 19 yearlings. Last year’s sale topping consignor Hazelwood Bloodstock has six lots catalogued.

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said the international achievements of the graduates only adds to the global appeal of the sale.

“Graduates of Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale have enjoyed another stellar year with the likes of this year’s dual Group 1 winner Palace Pier and outstanding global stars Newspaperrecord and Russian Camelot flying the flag throughout the world,” said Mahony. “The international achievements of Book 1 purchases at the highest level have yet again demonstrated the uniquely global appeal of Europe’s premier yearling sale and this year’s catalogue is yet another in a long sequence of truly exceptional Book 1 catalogues.

“We have an extraordinary number of yearlings by the very best of an outstanding cast of European sires and, crucially for buyers at every level of Book 1, all 547 Book 1 yearlings can reward owners with the lucrative prize money offered through the £20,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus scheme. While the prize-money for the hugely popular Book 1 Bonus Scheme has been slightly reduced in these uncertain times, it still remains uniquely rewarding and a significant number of the fillies in October Book 1 will also be eligible for the recently introduced Great British Bonus scheme.”
