Wyong trainer Kim Waugh believes Garrison (I Am Invincible) – today’s Inglis Digital September (Early) Online Auction sale-topper – will develop into an ideal Provincial Championships candidate, after she paid $95,000 for the gelding.

Catalogued as Lot 2, Garrison, a winner of two of his past three starts for former trainers Peter and Paul Snowden and Waugh said they believed he had been unlucky not to have more wins on his CV.

“I had a chat to Peter and Paul about him, they both really liked him as a horse and his form is really good, he’s probably been a bit unlucky not to have won a couple more races actually so it’s nice to be taking him home,’’ Waugh said.

“We’ll get him here to the stables and at this stage keep him in work and keep him racing, given at his past three starts he’s won two and finished a third placing as well.

“He’s a Provincial Championships horse for us ideally. He’s got nice potential, he’s only had eight starts so it’s all ahead of him, we’ll just see where he ends up but that’s the long-term plan for him.’’

The son of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) is out of dual-winning Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Unassailed, who is herself a half-sister to Listed winner and Group 1-placed Great Esteem (Redoute’s Choice) and fellow stakes winning High Esteem (Redoute’s Choice).

Further back this is the same family as multiple Group 1 winner Central Park (In The Wings) and Group 2 winner Velvet Moon (Shaadi) - the dam of 2003 Dubai World Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Moon Ballad (Singspiel), while Velvet Moon is also the grandam of dual Group 2 winner Telescope (Galileo).

The second top lot was one-time winner The Spell (Rubick), who was offered unreserved by Paul Perry Horse Training in the broodmare category and catalogued as Lot 170, and she was purchased for $85,000 by Craig Rounsefell’s Boomer Bloodstock - who was working on behalf of Daandine Stud.

The mare is out of winning Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) mare, whose four winners are headed by 2017 Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner The Mission (Choisir) and stakes-placed juvenile Smart Amelia (Smart Missile). She was purchased by Perry for $420,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2018 from the Edinglassie Stud draft.

“There are some really good opportunities in the Inglis online Sales if you do your homework [and] the The Spell was a lovely find for Jan Clark's Daandine Stud,” Rounsefell said.

“She was an expensive yearling and looking back on my database, my notes showed she is a quality type so we are hoping she puts that into her future progeny.

“She is from a fast, two-year-old family and is a perfect fit for the Daandine broodmare band."

Meanwhile, dual-winning Pierro (Lonhro) gelding Lake’s Folly was snapped up by Michael Hickmott Bloodstock for $80,000 during the online auction.

It was no surprise to see Hickmott active on the online sale, given his recent success with Inglis Digital graduate Sky Punch (Alamosa) - who he purchased for $30,000 in August 2019 through the online platform and he proved every penny worth that price tag when taking out the Leon Macdonald Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Morphettville last month.

“The stable is going really well,” Hickmott said. “We’ve got a number of people that are keen to join and I think this horse profiles so well for South Australia.

“Lake’s Folly is low rated, has high peak figures in his form using the form analysts’ work and he has plenty of upside.

“I’ll put him to the open market and attract some new owners as well hopefully, so it’s very exciting.

“I love buying with Inglis Digital, it’s a fantastic platform, extremely transparent and gives everyone everything they need to get a clear picture of the product being offered.”

Catalogued as Lot 16, Lake’s Folly was purchased by his former trainer Anthony Freedman for $200,000 at the 2018 edition of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft and he is out of Listed winner Mama’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice).

Mama’s Choice herself is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Hollow Bullet (Tayasu Tsuyoshi) and Group 3 winner Last Bullet (High Chaparral).

Lake’s Folly is the top lot to date to be offered by Anthony Freedman Racing and his racing manager Brad Taylor expressed his delight at the result.

“It’s another great result that Anthony and Sam Freedman have had on the Inglis Digital platform,” Taylor said.

“Lake’s Folly was very solid for his previous owners, winning or placing in seven of his 11 starts.”

At the close of trade, Inglis reported the September (Early) Sale concluded with an aggregate of $1.87 million and a clearance of 87 per cent from 185 lots catalogued, while the average was recorded as $11,935 and the median sat at $5,500.
