A colt by Kingman (Invincible Spirit) was the headline act on the first day of Book 2 at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale after Godolphin beat off competition from Joseph O’Brien to land the winning blow of 400,000gns.

Catalogued as Lot 576 and offered by Norelands Stud, the colt is out of winning Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) mare Allez Y, who was purchased by Hubie De Burgh’s De Burgh Equine and James Harron for prolific Australian breeder John Camilleri for 170,000gns at the 2016 Tattersalls December Mare Sale.

Allez Y is out of Listed-winning mare L’Ancresse (Darshaan) making her a half-sister to Lloyd Williams-owned Group 3 winner and Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) entrant Master Of Reality (Frankel) and Listed scorer Chamonix (Galileo).

"He is from Norelands who do a fantastic job, he is a well-balanced horse, moved well and we have had a lot of luck with Kingman – Palace Pier and Persian King. He will go to be trained by Andre Fabre," said Anthony Stroud, who was signing the docket on behalf of Godolphin.

Harry McCalmont of Norelands said Allez Y would be heading to Australia having been bred to Ballylinch Stud-based sire Lope De Vega (Shamardal) on southern hemisphere time.

"He is a very nice horse, nice horses are easy to sell, and there is a strong market for nice horses," said McCalmont. "Allez Y is going to Australia, she belongs to John Camilleri, who bred Winx, and is in-foal to Lope De Vega on southern hemisphere time. I am delighted I have sold a good horse for him, very happy."

Further back this is the same family as Irish Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) winner Moonstone (Dalakhani) - the dam of Group 3 winners Nelson (Frankel) and US Army Ranger (Galileo).

Later on in the day, a colt by Coolmore Stud shuttler Churchill (Galileo) proved popular on the first day of Book 2 at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale on Monday after Stroud Coleman Bloodstock went to 350,000gns for a filly by the son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells).

Catalogued as Lot 718, the filly is out of Date With Destiny (George Washington), making her a three-quarters sister to Group 3 winner Beautiful Morning (Galileo).

Date With Destiny herself is out of Flawlessly (Rainbow Quest) - the dam of Group 3 winner Ombre Legere (Double Red), while she also produced Flawy (Old Vic).

Flawy herself produced German Group 3 winner February Sun (Monsun), fellow Group 3 scorer Best Name (King’s Best) and Listed scorer Heirloom (Dansili).

"When we bought Date With Destiny some people asked us if it was because of that rarity value, but it really wasn't,” said Newsells Park’s Julian Dollar. “We'd had some luck with the family before, and Flawly was one of the first mares we bought and she produced Best Name – she was one of the best mares we had early on in terms of sales and as a producer. We were very fond of the family so when the opportunity came to buy a bit more of it, we came in with her.

"We mated her to Galileo and she produced a lovely filly in Beautiful Morning, so we went to the son. The Churchill was an interesting mating going back to something familiar but to put in a bit more speed and precocity, the mare herself was quite precocious."

Churchill is currently covering his third book of mares at Coolmore’s Jerrys Plains base at a fee of $19,250 (inc GST).

Having paired up to buy four lots at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Jeremy Brummitt and Danny O’Brien made their presence felt again during Book 2, snapping up a filly by Coolmore Stud-based sire Australia (Galileo) for 40,000gns.

Catalogued as Lot 623 and offered by Barton Stud, the filly is out of winning Lawman (Invincible Spirit) mare Bella Veranna, who is herself a half-sister to Italian Group 1 winner Ventura Storm (Zoffany), who also landed the Moonee Valley Gold Cup (Gr 2, 2400m).

Further back this is also the family of Group 1 winner Maraahel (Alzao) and Group 2 winner and now successful sire Gutaifan (Dark Angel).

At the close of trade on Monday, Gleneagles had four yearlings sell for an aggregate of 198,000, while his average was 49,500gns.
