Listed winner and one-time Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) favourite English King (Camelot) has been entered as a ‘wildcard’ for next week’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.

Rated 118 by Timeform, the son of Camelot (Montjeu) landed the Lingfield Derby Trial Stakes (Listed, 1m3.5f), before finishing an eye-catching fifth in the Derby on his next start. He will be offered as Lot 1153A

Purchased for €210,000 at the Arqana Deauville October Yearling Sale by Jeremy Brummit - who incidentally purchased another son of Camelot in South Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Russian Camelot. The colt’s Le Havre (Noverre) half brother was bought at the 2019 Arqana October Yearling Sale by John Foote Bloodstock and is now in Australia.

English King is out of winning mare Zafonic (Gone West) Platonic, making him a half-brother to Group 3 winner Pacifique (Montjeu) and Prudenzia (Dansili), who in turn produced 2019 Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Magic Wand (Galileo) and 2013 Irish Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) winner Chicquita (Montjeu).

Platonic is also a half-sister to Pongee (Barathea), who in turn produced last year’s Cranbourne Cup (Listed, 2050m) winner Dr Drill (Dansili).

“I genuinely believe English King is the best horse I have ever trained and I will be very sorry to see him sold,” said trainer Ed Walker. “He is an outstanding prospect for the future having only raced six times and has all the credentials to attract potential buyers from throughout the world.

“He is a horse who loves fast ground and like all top-class horses has the ability to quicken off a fast pace as demonstrated in the Derby where he had the fastest final three furlongs of all."
