Colt out of Australian-bred Golden Cropper makes US$260,000
A pair of yearlings by leading sire, the Spendthrift Farm-based Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday), were the headline act during the first session of the 2020 Kentucky October Yearling Sale on Monday, with a filly by the sire the most expensive yearling of the day after Willis Horton Racing went to US$300,000 for the Wynnstay Sales-consigned youngster.
The filly was offered as Lot 202 and she is out of the stakes-placed Lemon Drop Kid (Kingmambo) mare Kid Majic, making her a sister to Canadian dual Grade 2 scorer Miss Mischief.
The filly is also a half-sister to stakes placed winning filly Mind Out (Tapit) and the unraced Rosemonde (Indian Charlie), dam of current multiple Grade 1-placed winner Rowayton (Into Mischief).
Kid Majic herself is out of stakes winner Call Her Magic (Caller ID), who produced Grade 1 winner J P's Gusto (Successful Appeal) and stakes-placegetter Magic Appea (Successful), who in turn produced the dam of Grade 3 winner Letruska (Super Saver).
The session's top colt was sold for US$260,000 to Juddmonte Farms from the consignment of Lane's End.
Offered as Lot 24, the bay colt is the second foal out of the Australian-bred More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Golden Cropper.
Golden Cropper ended up in America having been purchased by Marette Farrell Bloodstock for Mt Brilliant Farm for $650,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2016. The mare's first foal Tete A Tete (Malibu Moon) broke her maiden as two-year-old this year.
Golden Cropper herself is out of 2007 San Domenico Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) winner Sliding Cube (Rock Of Gibraltar), making her a half-sister to Group 2 winner and now Coolmore Australia-based sire Rubick (Encosta De Lago).
Sliding Cube herself hails from one of the most famous Australian families in the stud book, being out of two time-winning mare Shantha's Choice (Canny Lad), the dam of three-time Group 1 winner and former champion sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill), fellow Group 1 scorer and now Blue Gum Farm-based stallion Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago), top-flight winner Platinum Scissors (Danehill) and Listed winner Echoes From Heaven (Encosta De Lago), who was also Group 1-placed.
During Monday's session Fasig-Tipton reported that 248 yearlings sold for an aggregate of US$8,393,800 at an average of US$33,846, while the median sat at US$15,000.
