Eclipse Thoroughbreds Partners pay US$560,000 for yearling.
A colt by Lane's End-based stallion Quality Road (Elusive Quality) led the way during the second session of the Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale on Tuesday after Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners went to US$560,000 for the Anderson Farm-consigned youngster.
Catalogued as Lot 498, the colt is out three-time winner Pearl Turn (Bernardini), making a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Gretzky The Great (Nyquist), who is also owned by Eclipse.
Further back the colt hails from the same family as Grade 2 winner Saint Anddan (A.P. Indy) and Listed winner Ganges (Neo Universe).
The session's top filly was a daughter of Quality Road, after Knights Bloodstock went to US$230,000 for the filly, who was offered by Claiborne Farm as Lot 389.
Bred by the China Horse Club, the filly is the first foal out of the stakes placed Sky Mesa (Pulpit) mare Moonlight Sky, who is herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 1-winning champion mare Abel Tasman (Quality Road) and a full sister to Dogwood Stakes. (Gr 3, 7f) winner Sky Girl.
Later on in the afternoon, a colt by the late Pioneerof the Nile (Empire Maker) also made US$230,000 when he was purchased by Bruce N. Levine.
Catalogued as Lot 680 and offered by Taylor Made Sales, the colt is out of Grade 3 winner Savvy Supreme (Distorted Humor), who is in turn a sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Commentator.
During Tuesday's session, 241 yearlings sold for US$7,996,700, at an average of US$33,181. The session median was US$15,000. Through two days of selling, 489 yearlings have realised an aggregate of US$16,390,500, while the average overall is reported to be US$33,518.
