Stonestreet Farm buy mare in foal to Curlin on first day of Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale

Australian-bred stakes winner Houtzen (I Am Invincible), in foal to Curlin (Smart Strike), sold for US$1,500,000 to Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet Farm during the first session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in Lexington on Monday. 

Trained in Australia by Toby Edmonds, Houtzen retired the winner of seven of her 21 career starts that included the 2017 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) and she also captured the Champagne Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) that same year and then the PJ Bell Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) in 2018. 

The daughter of Yarraman Park’s I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) is the only winner out of Set To Unleash (Reset) who is a half-sister to the dam of Listed winner Mystery Love (Eurozone). Her third dam Elfenjer (Last Tycoon) produced Grade 1 winner Sun Classique (Fuji Kiseki). 

Houtzen was sold as Lot 31 by Peter O’Callaghan’s Woods Edge Farm as agent. 

Shortly afterwards Lady Prancealot, a daughter of Cornerstone Stud shuttler Sir Prancealot (Tamayuz) sold for US$1,600,000. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency as Lot 48, last year’s Santa Anita Oaks (Gr 1, 10f) winner, who finished fourth in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Gr 1, 9.5f), was bought by Shadai Farm. 

Bred in Ireland, she is out of the unraced mare Naqrah (Haatef) who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Baqah (Bahhare) being out of Filfilah (Cadeaux Genereux).
