A colt from the last crop of the late Yarraman Park Stud-based sire Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) will head to the Douglas Whyte stable in Hong Kong after Denys Chan - who was acting on behalf of Lisa Ngai - went to $270,000 for the Kenmore Lodge-consigned youngster at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale on Tuesday.

Catalogued as Lot 31, the colt was purchased by Ken James for $100,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Strawberry Hill Stud draft earlier in the year and he clocked 11.10 seconds in his breeze.

The colt is the first foal out of Listed-placed Street Cry (Machiavellian) mare Paris Match, who is herself a daughter of dual Group 1-winning Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) mare Fashions Afield, making him a half-sister to 2016 Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner and now Aquis Farm-based sire Kiss And Make Up (More Than Ready).

Further back this is the same family as dual Group 2 winner Imelda May (Ferlax) and Wrap Around (Bletchingly), who landed the 1992 edition of the William Reid Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).

Progeny of Hinchinbrook does well in Hong Kong, with the stallion producing 16 winners from 24 runners, headed by multiple Group 1 winner Beat The Clock and Group 2 scorer Champion’s Way.

“He’s going to Hong Kong for a Hong Kong client,” said Chan. “Hinchinbrook is doing very well in Hong Kong with horses like Beat The Clock - he’s an amazing sire who suits Hong Kong very well.

“It’s his last crop, so we won’t be able to get them any more. He’s got perfect x-rays and scope.

“He was one of the horses who caught my eye. There are plenty of good horses here at the sale and I think it was good buying. I budgeted him at $300,000, so it’s good for the buyer. It’s a buyers’ market.”

Of the quarantine restrictions, Chan said: “I did a round trip from Hong Kong going through New Zealand to do my quarantine in New Zealand, then I flew into Adelaide and then Brisbane. It will be a month-long trip to get to the sale.”
