First weanlings of American Triple Crown winner offered at Keeneland

A colt from the first crop of unbeaten American Triple Crown hero and now Coolmore Stud shuttler Justify (Scat Daddy) proved popular during the opening session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, when Donato Lanni purchased the weanling for $600,000. 

The colt was catalogued as Lot 21 and offered by Hunter Valley Farm and he is out of unplaced mare Groton Circle (Mr Greeley), making him a half-brother to Listed winner Supreme Aura (Candy Ride). 

Groton Circle herself is a half-sister to stakes winner Abraham (Distorted Humor), while further back this is the same family as three-time Grade 3 winner Miss Isella (Silver Charm), Grade 3 scorer Sir Cherokee (Cherokee Run) and Listed scorer Guamtyphoon (Distorted Humor). 

Later on in the session, another colt by the son of Scat Daddy (Johannesburg) was snapped up by Clear Creek Stables for US$250,000. 

Justify is covering his second book of mares at Coolmore’s Australia base at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST). 

Later on in the afternoon, MV Magnier paid the same price for a colt by Coolmore’s other Triple Crown-winning shuttler in American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile). 

The colt was catalogued as Lot 244B and offered as part of the Beau Lane Bloodstock draft and he is out of the prolific winner Unicorn Girl (A.P. Five Hundred), whose two winners are headed by top-flight winner Jackie’s Warrior (Maclean's Music). 

Unicorn Girl herself is out of stakes winner Horah For Bailey (Doneraile Court) and she is therefore a half-sister to fellow stakes winner Bernie The Maestro (Bernstein). 

Head of State was American Pharoah’s first runner in Australia when he finished fifth in the Golden Gift (1000m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The stallion is covering his fourth book of mares at Coolmore Australia and his fee is set at $55,000 (inc GST).
