579 yearlings have been catalogued for Book 1 and 339 yearlings for Book 2

A total of 579 yearlings have been catalogued for Book 1 of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series which will get underway at Karaka on January 24.

The Book 1 and 2 of the sale will follow the lucrative Karaka Million twilight meeting at Ellerslie Racecourse on January 23. 

Book 1 will kick off on January 24, 25 and 26, followed by 339 yearlings in Book 2 on January 27 and 28. 

In a change from previous years, Book 3 will be an online sale on Gavelhouse Plus on Wednesday February 3.

New Zealand breds have continued to thrive on the track, with New Zealand-sourced fillies winning six of the last seven editions of the Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m), and three-year-olds sourced from this side of the Tasman have won 33 percent of the Group 1 Derby races in Australia over the last seven seasons. 

There were ten New Zealand-sourced Group1 winners in Australia during the 2019-20 season alone and New Zealand-bred horses have won seven Group 1 races in the current Australian season to date, including last month’s VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Johnny Get Angry (Tavistock)

The catalogue for Book 1 features the progeny of Group 1-winning mares including a Hellbent (I Am Invincible) colt out of New Zealand 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Planet Rock (Fastnet Rock) (Lot 40), multiple Group 1 winner Prize Lady (Prized) will be represented by a filly by Shocking (Street Cry) (Lot 49), while Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Rena’s Lady (Arena) has a filly by Coolmore’s American Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) has a filly set to go under the hammer. (Lot 69). 

Meanwhile, Auckland Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winners Rock Diva (Lucky Unicorn) and Chenille (Charmed) will be represented by a filly by Pierro (Lonhro) (Lot 74) and a colt by Tavistock (Montjeu) (Lot 312) respectively. 

Valley Girl won the Herbie Dykes Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) in 2016 and her second foal by Savabeel (Zabeel) will be offered as Lot 194, while, New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Fanatic (Shocking) will be represented by a yearling colt by Churchill (Galileo) and fellow top-flight winner Guiseppina’s (Johar) Tavistock colt will go through the ring as Lot 431.

Furthermore, elite level-winning pair I Do (No Excuse Needed) and Insouciant (Keeper) will also have their progeny offered at the sale, with the represented by a filly by Savabeel (Lot 446), while the former has a filly from the first crop of Newgate Farm’s Russian Revolution (Snitzel) catalogued for the sale (Lot 449).

As with the highly successful recent NZB Ready to Run Sale, online bidding services will be available for all registered buyers who are unable to physically attend Karaka 2021.

All yearlings will be available for on-farm inspections with agents available to inspect on behalf.
