Unraced three-year-old Evolutionary (Snitzel) will head to Hong Kong after he became the third highest Inglis Digital Sale price ever when he was purchased by Pacific Point Bloodstock for $330,000 during Wednesday’s November (Late) Online Auction.

Catalogued as Lot 56 and offered by Aquis Farm, the gelding landed a barrier trial at Randwick on Tuesday and Aquis’ managing director Shane McGrath expressed his delight at the result.

“This is a great result,” said McGrath. “The great thing about these Inglis Online sales is the transparency and that people can bid with confidence and that was certainly the case with Evolutionary and we couldn’t be happier.

“His two recent trial wins showed he would make a lovely horse for Hong Kong and this result shows the demand for the high level Hong Kong horses is tremendous.

“He’s got a fantastic temperament this horse, he’s shown his tremendous ability as recently as Tuesday at the trials and he’s a very nice pick up for his new owners.’’

The gelding was purchased by Aquis for $250,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale and he is out of Listed-placed Giant’s Causeway (Storm Cat) mare Quaintly, who is herself a sister to Listed winner Courtofversailles.

The gelding’s third dam is dual Grade 2 scorer Number (Nijinsky), who in turn produced Group 1 winner Jade Robbery (Mr Prospector) and Grade 3-winning pair Chequer (Mr Prospector) and Numerous (Mr Prospector) and the dam of Group 2 winner Lizard Island (Danehill Dancer) and Listed winner Inflate (Forty Niner).

The November (Late) catalogue concluded with a gross of $2.25 million, meaning the overall aggregate for sales held on the online platform in 2020 is now just $700,000 shy of reaching $50 million and Inglis Digital business manager Nick Melmeth hailed the results of the this year as ‘extraordinary’.

“I clearly remember our first sale (May 2017) and the delight with which we greeted a sale topper of $42,500, so to get to where we are today, knowing the full amount of effort that so many people have put in, is very fulfilling,” Melmeth said.

“I take great satisfaction in hearing people refer to the platform as an ‘easy’ way to sell or buy, because a huge amount of work is done by a whole range of people behind the scenes – admin, accounts, marketing, research etc. – to achieve a high level of service.

“What is particularly exciting is that there is so much scope for the platform to progress further, already we have more than doubled the entire 2019 gross for the platform and all of the team is so stimulated by what can be achieved and we are just going to keep making it better and better.”

Inglis Digital will hold one sale next month, December 11-16 before reverting to its usual twice-monthly structure in January 2021.

Entries for the December Online Auction will close at midnight (AEDT) on December 9.
