Arqana.

Unraced Nafithaa (Shamardal) was the headline act on the third day of the Arqana December Deauville Breeding Stock Sale on Monday as Howson and Houldsworth Bloodstock went to €51,000 to secure the mare from Haras du Mont dit Mont draft who was offered in foal to Intello (Galileo).

Catalogue Lot 544, the mare is out of Listed-placed mare Lanansaak (Zamindar), making her a sister to one winner and a half-sister to another winner.

Lanansaak is herself a daughter of Listed-placed Bunood (Sadler’s Wells), while further back this is also the family of Australian-bred stakes winner Kareeming (Nadeem).

Further back the mare hails from the same family as 1983 Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Desirable (Lord Gayle) - the dam of dual Group 1 winner Shadayid (Shadeed).

Later in the afternoon, MAB Agency went to €46,000 for one-time winner Thaahira (Dynaformer), who has already produced five winners and she was offered in foal to former Haunui Farm shuttler Iffraaj (Zafonic).

The mare is out of Mehthaaf (Nureyev), who landed the 1994 Irish 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) and she is also the dam of Italian Group 2 winner Najah (Nashwan), while she is also the grandam of Group 3 winners Matterhorn (Raven’s Pass), Tactic (Sadler’s Wells) and Bangkok (Australia) as well as Listed winner Yaazy (Teofilo).

The mare was offered by Arcadia Livestock as Lot 561

At the close of trade on Monday, Arqana reported that 137 horses sold for an aggregate of €1,572,500 at a clearance rate of 84 per cent, while the average was €11,478 and the median sat at €10,000.
