Gregers.
Gregers. Picture: Racing and Sports

Who are your pick of the colts and why?
Lot 717  Pierro (Lonhro) - Rockzel (Zabeel) - a very nice athletic colt with plenty of size and quality. Lot 284 I Am Invinicble (Invincible Spirit) - Extremely (Hussonet) – a very well balanced colt with a great head and nostril.

Who are your pick of the fillies and why?
Lot 788 Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) - Shoot The Breeze (All American) - a big strong mature filly with a great temperament. Lot 358 Snitzel - Gregers (Commands) - a sharp looking filly with a great action, good strength and shape. Looks like she will be a two-year-old.

Who do you feel has improved most over the prep?
Lot 129 – he is a very nice Savabeel (Zabeel) colt and has just developed and impressed throughout the preparation. He has lovely relaxed movement and will be popular on the sales ground.

How do you feel the 2021 sale will measure compared to previous renewals?
We have had great interest with on-farm inspections, far more than we have not had previously. Magic Millions have a great catalogue of horses and we think it will be as strong as the past couple of years. The prize-money in Australia is still very good so it’s a great incentive for interested parties to purchase again this year.

How do you think the current COVID pandemic will affect the sale?
Obviously not too many international buyers will be at the sale but vendors are professional with their marketing of the yearlings with photos and video footage, so people from all round the world can see the types without being ringside. The industry is very tight knit so the sharing of information to people who cannot attend is not an issue. I think we are lucky, the sale will not be affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

What do you think are the positives to the pandemic on the way that sales are conducted?
More detailed information on the yearlings is being provided for the clients and online bidding is second nature to most people now. People have some limitations now on what they can spend money on, so the disposable dollar will be spent on the enjoyment of racing horses as opposed to an overseas trip!

What is the thing you like most about the Gold Coast Sale?
Seeing the next generation of horses getting offered!
