Who are your pick of the colts and why?
We have an extremely strong representation of colts this year with some standouts by Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) including the half-brother to Finance Tycoon (Written Tycoon) who won the Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) and is headed to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) for Lindsay Park (Lot 211). Also we have a full to Boomsara (Spirit Of Boom) (Lot 628), Champagne Boom (Spirit Of Boom) (Lot 493) and a brother to Wisdom Of Water (Headwater) (Lot 699).
Who are your pick of the fillies and why?
We have some sharp fillies including an Epaulette (Commands) half-sister to Rambeau (Brazen Beau) (Lot 270) who was third in the Magic Millions 2YO Clockwise Classic (1000m) race. As usual there is also some precocious looking Spirit Of Boom fillies!
Who do you feel has improved most over the prep?
The brother to Champagne Boom is a very late foal and we were unsure how he would be able to compete when we catalogued him, but he has come on nicely and has earned his position.
How do you feel the 2021 sale will measure compared to previous renewals?
Hard to say in the current climate, but I’m sure the demand for the quality stock will continue to be there on a similar level. The greater number catalogued in the sale however will no doubt impact the competition and price on the lower end horses. There will be good buying at that end.
How do you think the current COVID pandemic will affect the sale?
It will have an impact on the amount of buyers I'm sure, both due to economic uncertainty and also the physical restriction of not being able to attend. Trainers can always leave an order to be filled by an agent, however the bidding is rarely as bullish unless they are actually there themselves.
What do you think are the positives to the pandemic on the way that sales are conducted?
It has forced buyers to rely more so on photos, videos and online bidding. It is sensational to see how buyers have adapted to the necessary processes and got on with it.
What is the thing you like most about the Gold Coast Sale?
The beach and catching up with people after a long breeding season!
