Sells for US$475,000 during Monday's opening session of Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale

A colt by Munnings (Speightstown) topped the opening session of the Keeneland January Horses Of All Ages Sale in Lexington on Monday when bought by Oxo Equine for US$475,000. Sold by Hunter Valley Farm as Lot 26, the colt is out of the stakes winning mare Sea Shadow (Jump Start) who has produced one winner to date in the stakes performed Rising Seas (First Defence). 

The most expensive mare to sell during Monday's opening session was Royal Charlotte (Cairo Prince) who was bought by WinStar Farm for US$400,000. Sold by Elite Sales as Lot 17, the five-year-old was sold as a racing or breeding prospect. She has won five starts to date included twice at Graded level. 

Overall on Monday 206 lots were sold for US$12,095,400, down 11 per cent from the opening session a year ago when 209 lots sold for US$13,668,300. The average of US$58,716 was down ten per cent from the 2020 figue of US$65,399 whilst the median of US$35,000 was down five per cent from US$37,000 a year ago. 

The sale continues on Tuesday.
