Spendthrift and Written Tycoon (Iglesia) have enjoyed some brilliant days together, most notably this season with the exploits of Dirty Work, who won the Schillaci Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) in October and farm manager Garry Cuddy is hoping the colt they paid $1,200,000 to secure can prove to be another shining light for the farm.

Catalogued as Lot 869, the colt is out of the placed Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado) mare Taqaseem and she is herself a half-sister to 2017 Doomben Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Sense Of Occasion (Street Sense).

The colt also hails from the same family as fellow Group 1 winner Rewaaya (Singspiel), who landed the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) in 2006.

Cuddy told Racing & Sports Bloodstock he liked the horse the moment they saw him and one of the main attractions to him was how well he took the vigorous sales process.

"He was a horse we liked as soon as we first saw him," said Cuddy. "We have gone back everyday and he has been exactly the same horse everyday which is good in our books. I guess being able to handle the rigorous inspection process says a lot about a horse and is a big tick in our eyes.

"He is a strong colt and I won't sit here and tell you he is going to be an early two-year-old type, but it wouldn't shock me all the same, but he is by Written Tycoon out of a Medaglia d'Oro mare so we are not expecting a little jump and run two-year-old type.

"We are happy with him and think he will be a nice Autumn two-year-old into a nice three-year-old. Written Tycoon's I feel need that little bit of extra time and he'll end up telling us what he is."

Over the past four days, Spendthrift have spent $3,050,000 on five yearlings, with this colt being the most expensive of the quartet.

The colt also handed vendor Emirates Park with their second seven figure result of the week, with the farm having sold a colt by Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice) to Aquis Farm and Phoenix Thoroughbreds for $1,800,000 on Thursday and Bryan Carlson told Racing & Sports Bloodstock it was the right time to sell a yearling by Written Tycoon given the stallion's success over the past few months.

"He is quite a scopey leggy colt and he is from a great two-year-old family, with definitely a stallions page," said Carlson.

"He is by Written Tycoon, who is the flavour of the month so he definitely ticks every box and the right buyers were at the time.

"Spendthrift have got the record with the sire and for an international farm like Spendthrift to buy him and allow us to keep a share in him is great and gives us great confidence."

Emirates Park have sold six yearlings this week for an aggregate of $3,580,000, while the average is $596,667 which sees them sitting at the top of the vendors table in that sphere.
