Bowditch buoyed by results at Magic Millions after three days of selling

At the close of trade on day three, Magic Millions reported 552 yearlings had sold for an aggregate of $134,400,000, which is down 15 per cent at this point in the sale 12 months ago when 628 lots had sold for $158,327,000. The average meanwhile is $257,471 - a two per cent increase from the 2020 figure of $252,113. The median is $180,000 the same as it was at last year’s sale and the clearance rate at 88 per cent, compared with 87 per cent at the same point in 2020.

Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch was once again blown away by the strength of the day's trade.

“It was a phenomenal day's trade again,” said Bowditch. “The numbers across the board are just fantastic. We had another three million dollar horses today but buyers are getting into the market across all levels.

“There’s still plenty of great yearlings to come through the Book One catalogue over the next couple of days and importantly inspections start tomorrow for Book Two.”

Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) is sitting at the top of the leading sires table by average (with three or more lots sold), having had 11 yearlings sell at an average of $611,818 for an aggregate of $6,730,000, while I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) is leading the way in terms of gross, with 29 of his progeny selling for a total receipts of $16,295,000 at an average of $561,897.

Arrowfield Stud are currently recording the biggest aggregate in the vendors table, having sold 31 yearlings for a gross of $10,225,000 at an average of $329,839, while the leading vendor by average (with three or more lots sold) is Emirates Park, who have sold four yearlings for an aggregate of $2,230,000 at an average of $557,500.

Unsurprisingly the leading buyer at the end of the day two are Aquis Farm and Phoenix Thoroughbreds, who have snapped up 13 lots for $9,385,000, while Ciaron Maher is sitting second, having forked out $5,750,000 for 20 yearlings at this year’s Magic Millions sale.
