A filly by former Arrowfield Stud resident Scissor Kick (Redoute’s Choice) led the way at Book 2 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on Sunday after All Winners Thoroughbreds went to $300,000 for the filly from the Arrowfield Stud draft.

Catalogued as Lot 1010, the filly is out of Listed-placed Moonlight Hussey (Hussonet), whose four foals to race have all been winners.

Moonlight Hussey herself is a out of Listed winner Lunaspur (Flying Spur) - the dam of Group 2 winners Moonovermanhattan (Manhattan Rain) and Colorado Claire (Hussonet), who in turn produced fellow Group 2 scorer Gunnison (Not A Single Doubt) as well as the dam of stakes scorer Group 3 winner Selenia (Not A SIngle Doubt).

Further back this is also the same family as top-flight winners Soqrat (Epaulette) and Lucky Bubbles (Sebring).

Colorado Claire’s colt by Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) was purchased by Annabel Neasham Racing and Brian McGuire for $425,000 during Book 1 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier in the week.

“She’s a lovely filly by Scissor Kick,” Arrowfield’s Paul Messara said. “She’s well related and is from a great family – the family of Gunnison and Colorado Claire.”

“She’s a fantastic type and those good sorts are well found.”

Later on in the afternoon, Queensland-based trainer Kacy Fogden secured a colt by All Too Hard (Casino Prince) from the draft for Vinery Stud - where the stallion resides - for $200,000.

Fogden told Racing & Sports Bloodstock the price-tag was slightly more than they expected to pay, but that they were happy they could secure him.

“We really loved him. He is a great big moving son of All Too Hard out a Listed performing mare,” said Fogden. “He had a cracking, powerful and athletic walk. We loved him. We were hoping to pay slightly less, but when you find one you really like you sometimes have to pay slightly more.”

Fogden also purchased a colt by Aquis Farm’s first-season sire Jukebox (Snitzel) on Sunday, while during Book 1 she bought nine yearlings for an aggregate of $2,155,000 at an average of $239,444 and the trainer said she was happy with how the week had gone.

“The sale has gone well,” said Fogden. “We have been really lucky that we have bought some really nice horses for good value. We sort of have something for everyone in there, we have a nice balance.”

Catalogued as Lot 1043, the All Too Hard colt is out of Listed-placed Dansili (Danehill) mare Poppet's Treasure, who has already produced three winners.

Poppet's Treasure herself is out of Our Poppet (Warning), making her a half-sister to German Group 2 winner Overdose (Starborough) as well as French stakes winner Majestic Mount (Exceed And Excel).

Further back this is the same family as Group 3 winner Upend (Main Reef) and Listed winner Musicanna (Cape Cross), who was also placed at Group 1 level.

All Too Hard was the leading sire by both aggregate and average (with three or more lots sold), having sold five yearlings for a gross of $445,000 at an average of $89,000.

At the close of trade on the first day of Book 2, 83 lots sold for an aggregate of $4,942,500 at an average of $59,548. The median was reported as $45,000, while the clearance sat at a healthy 81 per cent.

During Book 2 last year 131 lots sold for $10,138,500 at an average of $77,393 and median of $55,000.

Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said he was confident the solid trade would continue through to the last day of Book 2 on Monday.

“Book Two has a wonderful record of producing Group 1 horses at good value prices,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“I’m certain this will be the case again this year and there’s plenty more quality lots to go through tomorrow.

“The opportunities will continue through Book Three and then the Summer Racehorse Sale with a great draft from Godolphin.”
