Hong Kong Jockey Club secure the colt out of O’Reilly mare Lovetessa for $720,000
The Hong Kong Jockey Club have been active throughout Karaka 2021 - Book 1, purchasing three lots for a total spend of NZ$1,260,000 and on Tuesday bought the sale topper when going to NZ$720,000 for the Savabeel (Zabeel) colt out of Lovetessa (O’Reilly).
Offered by Cambridge Stud as Lot 520, Lovetessa is Group 3 placed and has produced two winners from as many foals to race and this colt is her fifth foal. The colt’s second dam is Love Diamonds (Danehill) who produced 2019 Lowland Stakes (Gr 2, 2100m) winner Queen Of Diamonds (Savabeel) while his third dam is dual Group 1 winner Tristalove (Sir Tristram).
Bruce Harvey was representing the Hong Kong Jockey Club at Karaka and said that Tristalove was one of his all time favourites but he had to fend off Roger James to secure the colt.
“We broke in Tristalove way back when she was a yearling and she was one of my favourite horses we have ever had,” Harvey said.
“We had a bit more, but there wasn’t a lot left. A good judge was the underbidder. We are very happy,” he said.
“We missed out on the top lot yesterday (Monday), the one that made NZ$520,000,” Harvey said.
“I saw him (Savabeel colt) at the on-farm parade and I absolutely loved him, and I have loved him every time I have seen him.
“He was just a quality colt and he moved so well. He was our first pick of the sale, he ticked all the boxes for us.”
The other two Hong Kong Jockey Club purchases were the Reliable Man (Dalakhani) - Veva Girl (Fastnet Rock) colt from the draft of Westbury Stud who was bought for NZ$340,000 (Lot 200) and the Per Incanto (Street Cry) - Amanjena (Smart Missile) colt from Blandford Lodge (Lot 240) who was bought for NZ$200,000.
