Inglis has announced that dual Group 1 winning mare Pippie (Written Tycoon) is one of the first lots that has been confirmed for their 2021 Chairman’s Sale which will be held at Riverside Stables on Friday May 7.

Owned by Heran Racing, five-year-old Pippie has raced 13 times for six wins and two placings with her earnings totalling over $1.2 million. A winner on debut at two, Pippie won once at three while her breakthrough stakes win came at four when she took out the Cockram Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) in August 2019. The first of her Group 1 victories came last February when she won the Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m). At five this season Pippie resumed with a win in the Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) last September.

During her career to date Pippie has defeated the likes of Bivouac, Trekking, Tofane, Bella Vella, Hey Doc, Hanseatic, Exceedance, Mystic Journey, Scales of Justice, Amphitrite and Aloisia and her plans this autumn include the Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) and The Galaxy (Gr 1, 1100m).

Managing owner Glenn Heran said: “She is a spectacular mare who is up there with the fastest racehorses in the world and she is a delight to have around in terms of her relaxed nature and temperament.

“She is a daughter of Written Tycoon and I think it’s fair to say there is no better-performing stallion at the moment than Written Tycoon and she is right up there at the top of that list.

“She’s made a name for herself as being a world-class sprinter and I have no doubt she will also be a world-class broodmare.’’

Bought by trainer John Meagher for $60,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Pippie is out of the six-time winner Couple Express (Ne Coupez Pas) from the family of dual Group 2 winner Merry Ruler (The Carpenter) and Listed winer Prince Marauding (Marauding) who also placed second in an Oakleigh Plate.

“We’re delighted that Pippie has been confirmed for the sale,” Inglis’ general manager of bloodstock sales and marketing Sebastian Hutch told Racing & Sports Bloodstock on Sunday.

“The Chairman’s Sale is a concept that has been very successful for Inglis, particularly in the last couple of years when the sale has produced eight $1,000,000 plus results. We have great confidence in our ability to sell these quality mares exceptionally well and while it’s a competitive market, the Chairman’s Sale offers a distinct point of difference in terms of the tailored marketing that we do and vendors have been very positive on that.”

Hutch said that Pippie was a special offering for this year’s sale and will be part of a strong catalogue.

“Pippie is going to be a special offering at the sale and it’s exciting to consider the interest that she is going to attract. We are looking forward to having her as part of another really strong catalogue for 2021 which we have been working on pretty much since last year’s sale and will be working on right up until the final weeks before the sale,” Hutch continued.

“The fact that pregnant mares have averaged over $405,000 and race fillies have averaged over $545,000 over the last two years gives us real confidence when ‘selling’ the sale to prospective vendors with the right kind of stock.”

Sales companies have had to adapt over the last year or so with some buyers now unable to physically attend sales due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic. Hutch said that Inglis are conscious of further enhancing the information available to potential purchasers.

“In terms of innovations for the sale, we are certainly conscious of further enhancing the offering to the market. The Chairman’s Sale sets the standard in Australasia in terms of the information that is made available to buyers pre-sale and the response to that, particularly the catalogue, has been extremely positive.

“We get constructive feedback from vendors and buyers about things that might be done to develop the product and we are very open to that and will continue to be. In terms of specifics, we’ll keep our cards close to our chest for the moment, but I think vendors can be confident that we will be doing everything we can to help deliver fantastic results for them.”

Entry forms for the 2021 Chairman’s Sale will be available in the coming weeks and anyone who wishes to discuss opportunities to participate in the sale are encouraged to contact a member of the Inglis Bloodstock Team.
