Profiteer (Capitalist) set the Randwick track alight with a scintillating display to win the Inglis Millennium (RL, 1100m) on Saturday and, at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on Sunday, it was another son of Newgate Farm’s young sire that stole the headlines, after James Harron went to sale record price of $600,000 to secure a colt by the exciting young sire from the Davali Thoroughbreds draft.

Catalogued as Lot 182, the yearling is the second foal out dual-winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Mystical Tale, who was purchased by Andrew Williams Bloodstock and Twin Palms Stud for $90,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Mystical Tale herself is out of winning Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) mare Fiction and hails from the family of 2003 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Polar Success (Success Express).

It was no surprise to see James Harron target the son of Capitalist having bought the stallion for $165,000 at the 2015 edition of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and he said the sale’s ability to unearth top-class racehorses has kept people coming back to the sale year after year and he rated this yearling as the best colt in the sale.

“He’s a strong colt, he handled the sale very well, great substance and obviously Capitalist is doing a great job,’’ Harron said.

“I’ve had more horses on my list at this sale than I ever have at Classic before and it’s a real credit to Inglis and the group of horses they’ve put together.

“The sale has had such wonderful graduates, particularly over the last five years. You are seeing colts like Extreme Choice, Castelvecchio and obviously Profiteer on Saturday and they are winning races you want to win with a colt and they get good early two-year-olds, which very much fits into our partnership mould.

“This colt could have gone anywhere. Physically he was an outstanding individual and goes back into a very fast Golden Slipper family so we were really happy to get him.”

Talking about his colts syndicate, Harron said: “We try to identify what we believe to be colts that can turn into stallions and we race them with the idea that they can find a place at stud. Obviously we kicked off with Capitalist, who continues to give us a great ride.

“We have an amazing group of owners and we have come very close over the years and we are trying to build something special and we are thinking about this very long term.”

Davali Stud’s Alison Hush was delighted with the result, but admitted she did not think he would realise that price-tag.

“I’m not really sure how I feel, I’m exhausted but over the moon obviously. It hasn’t really sunk in yet but I’m sure it will,’’ Hush said.

“We put a low reserve on him to get him on the market, we knew he would sail past that but quite that far past it? Not in our wildest expectations did we think $600,000, maybe half that! Very exciting.

“It’s great for a little farm to have such a good result, to take on the big boys and show them that we can sell good horses too.

“Numbers have been great all week and the people who have been coming to inspect have been absolutely amazing. Our stats every day are up on last year, we’re thrilled to see it and now they’re putting their hands up in the ring to back it up and that’s the main thing.’’

Capitalist had 11 lots sell for an aggregate of $2,175,000, recording an average of $197,727.
