Inglis has announced that Courchevel (Snitzel), a half-sister to multiple Group 1-winning champion Winx (Street Cry) in foal to Capitalist (Written Tycoon), has been added to the Chairman’s Sale.

The daughter of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) joins Pippie (Written Tycoon), dual Group 1 winner Danzdanzdance (Mastercraftsman), Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) runner-up Lankan Star (Nicconi) and multiple stakes winning two-year-old Mildred (Hinchinbrook) in the sale which will be held at Riverside on May 7.

Sebastian Hutch told Racing & Sports Bloodstock that Inglis were very proud of what the company has achieved with the Chairman’s Sale.

“We are very proud of what the Chairman’s Sale has become,” said Hutch.

“In particular, the volume of work that goes into putting the catalogue together to offer the unique promotional perspective that it does is huge but, it’s proven to be very rewarding and very lucrative for people who patronise the sale.

“The results have been outstanding and I think that the people who participate in the sale, whether it be the vendors or buyers, have been rewarded. Not only are the mares achieving hugely lucrative prices when they go through the sale, but they are also proving to be top class.

“At the sale in 2019, the dams of Loving Gaby, Dreamforce and Spright were sold and those horses all went and won a Group 1 in the space of 12 months and prior to the next sale, so it just reassures people that are participating in the sale that it’s genuine quality.

“To be in the position that we are in now, with mares like Pippie, Danzdanzdance, Courchevel, etcetera committed to the sale already is fantastic and they’ll be a number of other high class mares announced in the coming weeks and months. It just reaffirms the momentum the sale has got.”

Courchevel is an unraced daughter of Vegas Showgirl (Al Akbar) who is famed for producing 25-time Group 1 winner Winx as well as Group 2 winner El Divino, who is a brother to Courchevel. The four-year-old mare is being sold in foal to young Newgate Farm-based Capitalist who has the early Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) favourite Profiteer who is himself out of a Snitzel mare.

“It’s a privilege to be able to offer a horse like Courchevel, especially with the credentials that she has,” said Hutch. “She’s a Snitzel half-sister to a champion, a term which barely does Winx justice and by a champion sire in Snitzel and is in foal to a Slipper winner, with that sire now holding the Slipper favourite. Courchevel’s resultant foal will be bred on the same cross as that horse and she’s on a maiden cover.”

The Chairman’s Sale is part of the Inglis breeding stock series that comprises the Australian Weanling Sale (May 5 - 6 at Riverside), Australian Broodmare Sale (May 9 - 10 at Riverside), Great Southern Weanling Sale (June 13 - 14 at Oaklands) and the Great Southern Broodmare Sale (June 15 at Oaklands).

“The Chairman’s Sale is part of a very significant breeding stock sales series for us,” said Hutch. “I feel that we’ve achieved some really significant results in this sphere over the last two years. The I Am Invincible - Srikandi filly is still the most expensive weanling sold at auction in Australasia over the last two years.

“We sold two of the three most expensive weanlings at public auction in Australia last year and we significantly grew our share of the market in 2020. A lot of people had very positive results out of our weanling sales and we’ve got the added advantage of being in a convenient location to sell stock.

“The facilities at Riverside are outstanding, while the facilities at Oaklands are very convenient for Victorian breeders and the markets at each of those venues have demonstrated over the last number of years that they are consistent, reliable and lucrative. Vendors can have every confidence going into those sales that they are going to get a good result if they have the right stock in there. I think that is all that any breeder or vendor can ask for.”

The recent Inglis Classic Yearling Sale broke all previous records for the sale and the Ready 2 Race Sale last year was described by Hutch as a watershed moment for the company.

“What felt like a watershed moment for us was the Ready 2 Race Sale in 2020. It was the first sale that we had post the rescheduling. We had a series of sales in July and then a bit of a gap and expectation around the Ready 2 Race was very muted from both vendors and buyers,” he said.

“There was basically no interstate travel at that stage and we had international vendors and the results of that sale felt like a culmination of the developments that we’d made over the prior 18 months. We were able to run the highest grossing two-year-old sale in Australian history with a buying bench that was made up of a very broad cross section of participants and still the only people on the complex at that time were people based in New South Wales.

“I think our team took a lot of confidence from that and I think that you need a bit of reassurance every once in a while that you’re on the right track with what you’re doing and I think that sale gave it to us and set us on a good footing to attack the yearling sales and help buyers find the best horses and similarly generate great returns for vendors.

“Classic did that. For Classic to turn over what it turned over with the clearance rate and average that it did, to exceed the record sale of 2018 - the first sale at Riverside - we thought was the unbeatable number was extraordinary.

“We all talked about that sale as if it were an anomaly and then for that sale to go on and pass that figure was quite extraordinary and I hope that it would reassure stakeholders in our business - vendors and buyers  - that we are working really hard to to do the job to a very high standard. I hope that this is reflected in two things - results at the sales and results on the track and at the moment both things are going very well.”
