Talented multiple Group winner Mizzy (Zoustar) will go under the hammer as a racing and breeding prospect at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale, which gets under on May 25.

The daughter of Zoustar (Northern Meteor) landed the three consecutive Group races in 2019 when she took out the Toy Show Handicap (Gr 3, 1100m), Sheraco Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) and Golden Pendant (Gr 2, 1400m).

A winner of $1,690,030 in career prize-money, Mizzy has been unlucky not to add a top-flight victory to her CV this season, having just been touched off by Savatiano (Street Cry) in the Canterbury Stakes (Gr 1, 1300m) on March 6 and she backed up that performance with another second place finish behind Krone (Eurozone) in the Coolmore Classic (Gr 1, 1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Mizzy’s race record is impressive and she also boasts a top-class pedigree, being out of Listed-winning Magnus (Flying Spur) mare Missy Cummings.

Missy Cummings herself is out of three-time stakes winner Lady Knockout (Serheed), who is herself a daughter of Group 2 winner Prime Again (Marooned).

Prime Again is also the dam of Listed-winning duo Young Lionel (Blackfriars) and Expunge (Gilded Time), while further back this is also the same family as Listed winner and Group 2-placed Like A Butterfly (Blackfriars).

Breeder and part owner Rob Crabtree said the mare represents a rare opportunity for buyers.

“She will present prospective buyers with an incredible opportunity,” Crabtree said. “Physically she is a stunning animal – as nice a mare as I’ve ever seen.

“I bred her, her mother and also raced her grandmother. She gets her speed from the Magnus and Zoustar blood, but also some stamina from Serheed (sire of grandam Lady Knockout)

“Mizzy is in career best form and her last three runs have been fantastic in Group 1s. In the Oakleigh Plate she got back from barrier 15 and was 12 wide on the turn and yet still managed to be beaten less than three lengths. Her last two seconds have been outstanding. Yesterday (Saturday) she again came from a wide draw and was right there at the finish.”

Crabtree said the mare would continue to race until the National Sale and be an outstanding prospect to race for new connections before heading to stud.

“The plan is to start her next in the Emancipation Stakes in a couple of weeks and then she will tell us where we go next.

“The National Sale is well timed for any buyers to look at the Tattersall’s Tiara – there’s so much upside. She will make a wonderful broodmare.”

Mizzy will be one of the headline acts of what is shaping as a spectacular line up of fillies and mares forming the Newgate Consignment.

“We are honoured to be entrusted to consign such a race offering as Mizzy,” Newgate’s managing director Henry Field said. “A superior racehorse in career best form.”

“Phenomenally, her mother, grandmother and great grandmother were all, like her, very good racemares.

“Every inch of her makeup suggests she will also be a truly elite producer once her racing days are over.”

Magic Millions bloodstock manager Clint Donovan said the National Sale catalogue would be released in the coming weeks.

“Mizzy is a prospect of the highest order and she joins a mouth watering list of race fillies and broodmares for the National Sale.” Magic Millions bloodstock manager Clint Donovan said.  “We’d like to thank the owners for entrusting the sale of Mizzy with Magic Millions.”

“We are pumped to be releasing the catalogue in the next few weeks.”
