Winning Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) mare Iguacu Falls topped the Inglis Digital April (Early) Online Sale on Wednesday after being purchased by The Lofty Thoroughbred Group for $167,000.

Catalogued as Lot 202 and offered by Peter Franklin’s Cranton Bloodstock, the mare was offered in foal to YuLong Stud’s exciting first crop stallion Brutal (O’Reilly).

Iguacu Falls herself is out of the unraced Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Miss Iduacu - the dam of three winners including Miss Bosetti (Snitzel), who look to breakthrough for her maiden stakes success in the Redelva Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Miss Iduacu herself is a sister to Group 2 winner Nigara.

Meanwhile, the mare’s third dam is Twyla (Danehill) and she is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winners Al Maher, Platinum Scissors and the late breed-shaping Arrowfield Stud-based sire Redoute’s Choice.

Iguacu Falls produced a filly by Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) last spring and Franklin said she could be offered at the Inglis Classic Sale next year.

“I wasn’t expecting that!” Franklin said.

“She had been sitting on $127,000 since Tuesday afternoon but then in the last 10 minutes of the auction bidding took off again, it’s a great result for us.

“Special thanks to Verna Metcalfe at Middlebrook Valley Lodge and Katrina Partridge, the photos of the mare on Inglis Digital were beautiful and showcased Iguacu Falls well.

“I just thought the timing was good, with all the live broodmare sales looming.

“It gets harder later in the year when everyone has bought mares and I’m retaining her first foal, a nice Merchant Navy filly who I am inclined to race but I know Verna is keen to send to Inglis Classic in 2022.

“She has an early service to Brutal, who I believe was a good choice as a stallion, having worked for Hawkes’ for 25 years (as pre-trainer) I know how good he was as a racehorse.

“I hope the new owners receive a quick pedigree update, with Iguacu Falls' sister Miss Bosetti running in the Listed Redelva at Morphettville this weekend.”

Godolphin’s unreserved draft of six three-year-old geldings sold for a combined $359,000, with placed gelding Raoul (Kermadec) topping the Godolphin draft at $145,000, purchased by Sean Driver of Kurrinda Bloodstock with The Kosciuszko (1200m) in mind.

Catalogued as Lot 5, the gelding has raced five times for two second place finishes and a third and he is out of placed Rainbow Quest (Blushing Groom) mare Rosa Raisa, making him a half-brother to three other winners.

The gelding hails from the same family as multiple Group 1 winner Campanologist (Kingmambo).

“We’ve purchased him specifically for that race, as well as TAB Highways and the 2022 Country Championships and he will be trained Cameron Crockett in Scone,” Driver said.

“We inspected Raoul at Inglis Riverside this week and he was the one I wanted in this sale.

“He’s a maiden from five starts but has placed in all of them and a second to Kalashnikov in February looks like good form now having won a Black Opal and running in a Golden Slipper.

“I look at every Inglis Digital catalogue for tried horses and we’ve been active at the yearling sales; we just want to buy quality horses that give us and owners every opportunity.

“I purchased Remorseless (Written Tycoon) from the Inglis Digital October (Early) Sale last year for $85,000 and he won a trial by almost nine lengths at Dubbo in December.

“But he was a bit of a bull so he’s since been gelded also on a path to this year’s Kosciuszko, reports are he is flying so we’re really excited to see how both Remorseless and Raoul progress – and shares in the latter should be available next week.”
