Yulong snap up In Her Time for $2,200,000

Dual Group 1 winner set to visit Written Tycoon

Having been purchased by Newgate Bloodstock for $2 million at the Inglis Chairman's Sale 12 months ago, dual Group 1-winning sprinter In Her Time (Time Thief) was purchased for $2.2 million by Yulong Investments at this year's edition of the boutique sale and she will be covered by Written Tycoon (Iglesia), who will stand his first season at Yulong this spring.

A Winner of the 2019 Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) and Galaxy Handicap (Gr 1, 1100m) the year before, In Her Time was also placed at Group 1 level on six occasions and was offered by the Newgate Consignment on behalf of Orbis Bloodstock. The mare was offered as Lot 27 in foal to Yarraman Park's superstar stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit).

In Her Time is one of six winners out of the dual winner Hell It's Hot (Zeditave), a half-sister to Group 3 winner Hot As Hell (County) and Listed scorer Flaming Hot (County) while her second dam is also the grandam of Everest (1200m) winner and now Coolmore Australia-based sire Yes Yes Yes (Rubick).

Yulong's chief operating officer, Sam Fairgray, who was signing the ticket on behalf of Mr Zhang said the Yulong Stud principal had always been a fan of the mare throughout her glittering career on the racetrack and just missed on buying her at the sale last year.

"We are very happy to get her," said Fairgray. "Mr Zhang was a huge fan of the mare when she was racing and followed her career very closely and to be able to secure her for Yulong is fantastic. He tried to buy her last year but missed out, but this year he had his mind set on buying her, being in foal to I Am Invincible especially.

"She will visit Written Tycoon at the end of the year. Obviously he is the leading active sire in Australia at the moment, so it is exciting to be able to have a mare of this quality go to him and we are excited to get the foal out and bring it back to the sales hopefully.

"It is a great catalogue and there are some really nice mares here and I think a lot of the breeders are filling up their paddocks - so it's great."

Newgate's Henry Field added: "She's a beautiful mare, she was a champion sprinter, it was a great result all round. Orbis have sold at a great price, Yulong have bought a ripper, all round it was fair trade.''

Newgate Farm enjoyed another good result on the night when they sold stakes-winning Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) mare Meuse to Widden Stud's Antony Thompson for $1.2 million.

Catalogued as Lot 36, the mare was offered in foal to Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (High Chaparral) and she will likely be set for a date with Widden Stud's headline sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) next spring.

Meuse won four of her nine starts, headlined by a victory in the 2020 Laelia Stakes (Listed, 1600m), while she also ran third in the Vanity Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) and she is out of Group 3-winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King)-winning Precious Lorraine.

Precious Lorraine herself is out of Group 2-placed mare Monsoon Wedding (Danehill) and she is a sister to the late breed-shaping stallion Redoute's Choice and fellow Group 1 winner Platinum Scissors, while she is a three-quarter sister to Al Maher (Danehill) and Sliding Cube (Rock Of Gibraltar) - the dam of the now Swettenham Stud-based Group 2 winner Rubick (Encosta De Lago) and a half-sister.

Thompson said he jumped at the opportunity to buy into the mare's family because they are few and far between.

"She is from a family that is very tightly held, so any opportunity to get into that family we were certainly going to jump at it, so we are very happy to have her," said Thompson.

"She's a mare that is really going to suit Zoustar, so he will be her first cover and maybe for a couple of years and then see where we go from there. She's a really sharp sort of mare with great quality and hopefully sending her to Zoustar we can breed some elite yearlings and bring them back to your Easter Sales in a couple of years time."
