At the close of trade at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, the auction house reported 302 yearlings sold for an aggregate of $31,724,500 and managing director Barry Bowditch expressed his delight at the results.

“We are delighted with the results,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “It’s a sensational clearance rate of 88 per cent and an average of well over $100,000 and a gross of almost $32 million.

“The results have exceeded our expectations going in. The market was buoyant from start to finish.

“You’d like to think that vendors would keep bringing good horses which will give buyers more confidence to support the Weanling Sale.

“With graduates of this sale including the likes of Stay Inside, Pierro and Zoustar – this sale needs to be on everyone’s calendar – you need to be here and in the market and take the opportunities as they arise.

“We are really excited,” Bowditch added. “The floats are starting to arrive with all these beautiful mares to sell next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

“It’s a phenomenal catalogue and I can’t wait until 10am on Tuesday morning.”

With a significantly smaller catalogue last year comparisons are difficult, but the average of $105,048 recorded on Friday represented a 66 per cent increase on the $62,917 recorded during the 2019 edition of the sale. Meanwhile, the median finished on Friday at $52,250 up 49 per cent on $35,000 recorded in 2019.

Ciaron Maher Bloodstock finished the sale as the leading buyer, purchasing three youngsters for an aggregate of $1,760,000 at an average of $586,667.

Shadwell Stud Australasia Unreserved Dispersal, who were offered by Yarraman Park, finished the day as the leading vendors, selling 20 lots for an average of $271,750 at an aggregate of $5,435,000. Gilgai finished the day as the leading vendors by average (with three or more lots sold) selling eight weanlings for an aggregate of $2,500,000 at an average of $312,500.

Written Tycoon (Iglesia) finished the sale as the leading sire by aggregate, selling 23 weanlings for a gross $3,680,000 at an average of $160,000, while I Am Invincible was the leading sire by average (with three or more lots sold) selling seven offerings for $3,450,000 at an average of $492,857.
