Justin Bahen finished the day as the leading buyer, purchasing five weanlings for a gross of $1,380,000 at an average of $276,000 and the most expensive of the quartet was a filly by Widden Stud-based Zoustar (Northern Meteor), who he secured for $550,000.

Offered by Yarraman Park as part of the Shadwell dispersal, the filly is the first foal out of Enbihaar (Magnus), who took out the Blue Diamond Prelude (f) (Gr 2, 1100m) in 2018, before running second behind Written By (Written Tycoon) in the Blue Diamond (Gr 1, 1200m) two weeks' later and she is herself a daughter of Listed winner Charm's Honour (Strada). The filly was catalogued as Lot 77.

The five weanlings that Bahen purchased will eventually head into training with Matt Laurie and he told Racing & Sports Bloodstock he rated this filly as one of the nicest on the complex.

"The mare was very good and Zoustar works well with fast mares," said Bahen. "With this being a dispersal sale we will never get the opportunity to pop ourselves into these bloodlines again, especially with this good racemare off the track. She's a lovely filly and will head in training with Matt Laurie. As far as confirmation goes everything about her was very smooth and we were happy to collect her."

Bahen explained his plan heading into the sale was to treat it like a yearling sale and buy weanlings at smaller prices than if they were offered as yearlings.

"My client and I's plan of attack was to come to the sale and treat it like a yearling sale and at this time of their lives we would consider anything we got them for would be a discount. Yearling sales are so strong now and the very good ones are very hard to get hold of, so we were very keen to acquire her."

Enbihaar will be offered at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale next week and she is catalogued as Lot 834 and will be offered in foal to Darley shuttler Too Darn Hot (Dubawi).

Zoustar finished the day as the second leading sire by aggregate, with six of his weanlings selling for an gross of $1,975,000 at an average of $329,167 and this was only bettered by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), who had six lots sell for total receipts of $2,825,000 at an average of $470,833.

A few lots before, Bahen once again took advantage of the Shadwell dispersal, purchasing a colt by Kermadec (Teofilo) for $300,000.

Catalogued as Lot 71, the youngster is the ninth living foal out of winning Danehill (Danzig) mare Alqwah, making him a half-brother to multiple Group 2 scorer Faatinah (Nicconi) and four other winners.

Bahen said the colt was a stand out in terms of his physical appearance.

"He was really a lovely specimen," said Bahen. "He was extremely popular. I am a very big fan of Kermadec and the mare has produced a very good racehorse in Faatinah, who was very consistent throughout his career. I thought he was as nice a physical and colt that was on the complex. No one is putting a line through Kermadec, as I am a big fan, but if he was by any other stallion I think he would have made a lot more.

"He looked like he would be a great racehorse. He had a great attitude, great temperament and was just a really looking horse. He has a beautiful walk and a lovely colour about him, a really lovely horse and will probably be a late two-year-old early three-year-old."
