After Arcadia Queen (Pierro) failed to make her $4 million reserve on Tuesday at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, it was announced on Thursday night a deal had been reached for the three-time Group 1-winning daughter of Pierro (Lonhro), with Arrowfield Stud parting with $3.2 million for the Bob Peters-owned mare.

Arcadia Queen had been one of the most talked about lots heading into the sale, but she fell $600,000 short when passed in for $3.4 million on Tuesday.

Arrowfield Stud’s Paul Messara said resident stallion Dundeel (High Chaparral) was one of several sires in the mix to serve Arcadia Queen in her first season, although no decision had been made.

"She is a wonderful mare, one of those foundation-type mares that you love to have," Messara said. "She passed in on the day but then they (Peters family) came to us with an option to possibly do a deal around that price, which we agreed to.

"There was a little bit of toing and froing behind the scenes but that's it really.

"We've got Dundeel as a possibility for her, there are a few others as well and we'll have a look outside our own stallion roster.

"Obviously with a mare like this, it's very important to make sure we get the right mating for her to produce the best commercial outcome."

Originally trained in WA by Grant and Alana Williams, Arcadia Queen scored a dominant victory in the Kingston Town Classic (Gr 1, 1800m) in December 2018 before being transferred to Chris Waller. Returning to the stable of her original trainers, this season she added the Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) and the Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) to her record while she also finished second in the Futurity Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m).

Catalogued as Lot 723, Arcadia Queen is out of winning mare Arcadia (Redoute’s Choice) making her a half-sister to Group 2 winner Arcadia Dream (Domesday), Listed winner Arcadia Rose (Kheleyf) and a sister to Group 3 winner Arcadia Prince (Pierro).

Her second dam is the Group 1-placed mare Antique (Metal Storm) who is herself the grandam of Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Regal Power (Pierro).
